L’amor no passarà mai. Vindrà un dia que el do de profecia serà inútil, que el do de parlar en llengües s’acabarà, que el do de conèixer serà també inútil. Ara els nostres dons de coneixement i de profecia són limitats. Però quan vindrà allò que és perfecte, serà inútil allò que és limitat. Quan era un infant, parlava com un infant, pensava com un infant, raonava com un infant; però d’ençà que sóc un home, tinc per inútil el que és propi dels infants. Ara hi veiem de manera fosca, com en un mirall poc clar; després hi veurem cara a cara. Ara el meu coneixement és limitat; després coneixeré del tot, tal com Déu em coneix. Ara, doncs, es mantenen la fe, l’esperança i l’amor, tots tres; però l’amor és el més gran.
