Living in God’s Peace: A 12-Day Journey Through Scriptureনমুনা

Honor that Gives Rest
After David became king, Saul and his sons died, but one of Jonathan’s sons— Mephibosheth—survived. Arguably he could have claimed his grandfather’s throne. In ancient times it was common to eliminate a defeated king’s family members. But David not only allowed Mephibosheth to live, he protected and provided for him: “So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table” (v. 13).
Here we catch a glimpse of David’s heart. No doubt some of his counselors encouraged him either to kill or banish Mephibosheth. But David was a man of mercy as well as justice. And it is justice— treating others fairly and honorably— that nurtures true peace, God’s authentic shalom. From David’s peace he enacted justice; from David’s justice he created peace.
If it is within your influence today to bring someone peace, don’t hesitate. Take David’s example as your own. The Lord will honor your gesture of peace because it reflects His character and heart to bring peace to others.

About this Plan

The story of the Bible is the story of peace. But peace isn’t simply a feeling of calm or ease. It is a way of experiencing life as we were always meant to, in relationship with our Creator and with each other. We can recover a completeness that was once lost but is restored in the gospel. Experience peace with God as you meditate on this important theme of Scripture. In this journey, you will find the encouragement you need to live out of the wholeness you have in Christ—and be equipped to share that peace with others.
