True & Beautiful Things About the Bible--New Testament

DAY 11 OF 30

The Letter to the Ephesians: Masterpiece

Practically speaking, nothing gives you better motivation to get out of bed in the morning than something meaningful that you need to get done. That sense of purpose often makes or breaks the day. It’s actually part of our DNA.

Why were we born? Why did God save us in the first place?

Ephesians 2:8 says God saves us because He wants to. Salvation is a gift He wants to give. We don’t do anything but receive it. We don’t earn it or deserve it. We can’t brag about it, nor do we forfeit it by disappointing Him (because that will happen, too.)

Now, here’s the part about living with purpose: God calls you His workmanship—literally, His masterpiece. He loves you as His own creative work of art. He made us and saved us each for a specific reason.

What did God create you to do or to be? What’s your life’s purpose? Finding that answer is one of life’s most beautiful pursuits.

Most of life is quiet—we just walk along, doing everyday sorts of things. Sometimes we get to climb to exciting peaks, but we also travel through deep valleys. What we learn in these peaks and valleys, as well as in the straight place, prepares us for God’s unique call on our lives.

God calls you to live at the intersection of your heart’s deep gladness and the world’s deepest hunger. He calls you to be ready for those moments when you can speak words of life, or model acts of service, or live out something supernatural.

Of course, He’ll give you the strength to do all that. You just need to be willing and ready. You were born for this. Ephesians 2:10 says God prepared these opportunities so you could walk in them. It’s an invitation from Him to take your understanding of your purpose and turn it into action.

Yes, it all sounds vague and mysterious. But isn’t that true of life? Real life is lived by faith. God hasn’t left you on your own to figure this out without Him. He calls you to follow Him, by faith, every day, every moment.

That’s where the mystery becomes flashes of eternity, and you know you were created for such a time as this.
