The Word Is Lifeনমুনা

The Word as a Mirror
Is it possible to forget your own face? Yet James uses this very paradox to describe a common attitude, listening to the Word of God without putting it into practice. It’s like looking into a mirror and then, right after, forgetting the image you just saw.
Forgetting the Word doesn’t simply mean not remembering a verse; it means not giving it value, not treating it as essential, not seeing it as a living part of yourself… like your own face is.
James insists on a key point: whoever looks carefully into the “perfect law,” that is, the Word, and puts it into practice, will be blessed, truly happy in life. But whoever only hears it without living it out is deceiving themselves.
Just as we take care of our physical appearance by looking in the mirror, we must also care for our souls by letting the Word reflect us, correct us, and guide us. Only this way can we grow in spiritual beauty and health.
Prayer: Lord, help me not to be a forgetful listener, but a faithful doer of Your Word. Transform me through Your living mirror.
