For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver. You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs.

For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried. You brought us into the net; you laid a crushing burden on our backs

You have tested us, O God; you have purified us like silver. You captured us in your net and laid the burden of slavery on our backs.

For you, God, tested us; you refined us as silver is refined.  You lured us into a trap; you placed burdens on our backs.

For thou, O God, hast proved us: Thou hast tried us, as silver is tried. Thou broughtest us into the net; Thou laidst affliction upon our loins.

For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs.

Bless our God, O peoples! Give him a thunderous welcome! Didn’t he set us on the road to life? Didn’t he keep us out of the ditch? He trained us first, passed us like silver through refining fires, Brought us into hardscrabble country, pushed us to our very limit, Road-tested us inside and out, took us to hell and back; Finally he brought us to this well-watered place.

For You have put us to the test, God; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid an oppressive burden upon us.

For You have tested us, O God; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid a heavy burden [of servitude] on us.

For you, O God, tested us; you purified us like refined silver. You led us into a trap; you caused us to suffer.
