Johan grew up in South Africa in a family that was culturally Christian but not deeply practicing. He carried anger and shame into his adult life: struggling with addictions, struggling to make money. Years later, Johan went reluctantly to church, but was surprised when God revealed Himself to be true. Johan began looking to God’s Word as the anchor for his life. And over time, Johan realized that despite his broken past, God’s Word was what helped him endure.

Collin is Johan’s younger brother. After a five-year relationship ended, Collin spiraled into despair, attempted suicide, and was rushed to the hospital. That’s when Johan came to see him.

Johan encouraged Collin to open the Bible App, telling him that whenever he felt the urge to do something destructive, he should turn to Scripture — the same way Johan had survived his own struggles.

Collin began reading the Verse of the Day, creating a rhythm that formed his new Bible habit. He started attending church after being discharged from the hospital, and over time, fell in love with God’s Word. He volunteered in church, led small groups, and grew steadily in faith. After years of serving, Collin recognized a call to ministry, starting as an underground preacher in the mines.

Today, Collin is a pastor, husband, and father and mentor to young believers. Because Johan found hope, he shared the Bible with Collin. And because Collin was rescued, he is sharing the Bible with others.
