Molech Worship and Spiritism
1Then#Or “And” Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2“And to the Israelites#Literally “sons/children of Israel” you shall say, ‘If there is anyone#Literally “a man a man” from the Israelites#Literally “sons/children of Israel” or#Or “and” from the alien who is dwelling in Israel, who gives any of#Literally “from” his offspring to Molech, he must surely be put to death; the people of the land must stone him with stones.#Hebrew “the stone” 3And I myself will set my face against that man, and I will cut him off from the midst of his people, because he has given some of#Literally “from” his offspring to Molech, so that he makes my sanctuary unclean#Literally “to make unclean my sanctuary” and profanes#Hebrew “to profane” my holy name.#Literally “the name of my holiness” 4And if the people of the land ever shut their eyes from#Or “disregard” that man at his giving some of#Literally “from” his offspring to Molech, not putting him to death, 5then#Or “and” I myself will set my face against that man and against his clan, and I will cut him off and all those from the midst of their people who prostitute after Molech. 6As for#Or “And” the person who turns to the mediums and the soothsayers to prostitute after them, I will set#Hebrew “and I will set” my face against that person, and I will cut him off from the midst of his people.
7“ ‘And you shall consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy, because I am Yahweh your God. 8And you shall keep my statutes, and you shall do them; I am Yahweh who consecrates you.
Family and Sexual Offenses
9“ ‘If there is anyone#Literally “a man a man” who curses his father or his mother, he shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father and his mother—his blood is upon him.
10“ ‘As for#Or “And” a man who commits adultery with a man’s wife, who commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, both the man who commits adultery and the woman who commits adultery shall surely be put to death. 11As for#Or “And” a man who lies with his father’s wife, he has exposed his father’s nakedness; both of them shall be put to death—their blood is on them. 12As for#Or “And” a man who lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall be put to death; they have committed a perversion—their blood is on them.
13“ ‘As for#Or “And” the man who lies with a male as lying with a woman, they have committed a detestable thing; they shall surely be put to death—their blood is on them.
14“ ‘As for#Or “And” a man who marries a woman and her mother, that is depravity; they shall burn him and them, so that it shall not become depravity in the midst of you all.
15“ ‘As for#Or “And” a man who has sexual relations#Literally “he gives his lying down” with an animal, he shall surely be put to death, and you must kill the animal. 16As for#Or “And” a woman who approaches any animal to copulate with it, you shall kill#Or “and you shall kill” the woman and the animal; they shall surely be put to death—their blood is on them.
17“ ‘As for#Or “And” a man who takes his sister, his father’s daughter or his mother’s daughter, and he sees her nakedness and she herself sees his nakedness, it is a disgrace, and they shall be cut off before#Literally “in” the eyes of their people;#Literally “the sons/children of their people” he has exposed his sister’s nakedness—he must bear his guilt. 18As for#Or “And” a man who lies with a menstruating woman, he exposes#Or “and he exposes” her nakedness—her source he exposes and she herself reveals her blood’s source—both of them shall be cut off from the midst of their people. 19And you shall not expose the nakedness of your mother’s sister, and you shall not expose your father’s sister, because such a person#Hebrew “he” has dishonored his close relative—they must bear their guilt. 20As for#Or “And” a man who lies with his aunt, he has exposed his uncle’s nakedness—they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless. 21As for#Or “And” a man who marries his brother’s wife, it is an abomination; he has exposed his brother’s nakedness—they shall be childless.
You Shall Be Holy
22“ ‘And you shall keep all my statutes and all my regulations, and you shall do them, so that#Or “and” the land, to which I am bringing you to inhabit it, shall not vomit you out. 23And you shall not follow the statutes of the nation that I am driving out from before you,#Literally “from your faces” because they did all these things, and I detested them. 24So#Or “And” I said to you, “You yourselves shall take possession of their land, and I myself shall give it to you to possess it—a land flowing with milk and honey”; I am Yahweh your God, who has set you apart#Literally “I have set you apart” from the nations. 25And you shall distinguish between the clean and the unclean animal and between the unclean and the clean bird; and you shall not defile yourselves with the animal or#Or “and” with the bird or#Or “and” with anything that moves along the ground that I have set apart for you as unclean.#Literally “to make unclean” 26And you shall be holy for me, because I, Yahweh, am holy, and I have singled you out from the nations to be mine.
27“ ‘And a man or a woman, if a spirit of the dead or a spirit of divination is in them, they shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones#Hebrew “the stone”—their blood is on them.’ ”

Warnings About Various Sins
1The Lord said to Moses, 2“You must also tell the people of Israel these things: ‘A person in your country might give one of his children to Molech. That person must be killed. It doesn’t matter if he is a citizen or a foreigner living in Israel. You must throw stones at him and kill him. 3I will be against him. I will separate him from his people. This is because he gave his children to Molech. He showed that he did not respect my holy name. And he made my Holy Place unclean. 4The people of the community might ignore that person. They might not kill the one who gave his children to Molech. 5But I will be against him and his family. I will separate him from his people. I will do this to anyone who is unfaithful to me and who worships Molech.
6“‘I will be against anyone who goes to mediums and fortune-tellers for advice. He is being unfaithful to me. So I will separate him from his people.
7“‘Be my holy people. Be holy because I am holy. I am the Lord your God. 8Remember and obey my laws. I am the Lord, and I have made you holy.
9“‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death. He has cursed his father or mother. So he must be punished.
Punishments for Sexual Sins
10“‘A man might have physical relations with his neighbor’s wife. If he does, both the man and the woman are guilty of adultery. So they must be put to death. 11A man might have physical relations with his father’s wife. If he does, both the man and his father’s wife must be put to death. They have brought it on themselves. That man has shamed his father.
12“‘A man might have physical relations with his daughter-in-law. If he does, both of them must be put to death. What they have done is not natural. It must be punished.
13“‘A man might have physical relations with another man as a man does with a woman. If he does, these two men have done a hated sin. They must be put to death. They have brought it on themselves.
14“‘A man might have physical relations with both a woman and her mother. This is evil. The people must burn that man and the two women in fire. Do this so that your people will not be evil.
15“‘A man might have unnatural physical relations with an animal. If he does, he must be put to death. And you must also kill the animal. 16A woman might have unnatural physical relations with an animal. If she does, you must kill the woman and the animal. They must be put to death. They have brought it on themselves.
17“‘It is shameful for a brother to marry his sister and to have physical relations with her. In front of everyone they must both be separated from their people. The man has shamed his sister. And he is guilty of sin.
18“‘If a man has physical relations with a woman during her monthly period, both the woman and the man must be separated from their people. They sinned because they showed the source of her blood.
19“‘Do not have physical relations with your mother’s sister or your father’s sister. That would shame a close relative. Both of you are guilty of this sin.
20“‘A man must not have physical relations with his uncle’s wife. That would shame his uncle. That man and his uncle’s wife would die without children. They are guilty of sin.
21“‘It is unclean for a man to marry his brother’s wife. That man has shamed his brother. They would have no children.
22“‘Remember all my laws and rules, and obey them. I am leading you to your own land. If you obey my laws and rules, that land will not throw you out. 23I am forcing the people who live there out of that country ahead of you. Because they did all these sins I have hated them. Do not live the way those people lived.
24“‘I have told you that you will get their land. I will give it to you as your very own. It is a land where much food grows. I am the Lord your God. I have set you apart from other people and made you my own. 25So you must treat clean animals and birds differently from unclean animals. Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these unclean birds or animals or things that crawl on the ground. I have made them unclean for you. 26I have set you apart from other people. So you must be holy to me. This is because I am the Lord, and I am holy.
27“‘A man or woman who is a medium or a fortune-teller must be put to death. You must kill them with stones. They have brought it on themselves.’”
