Wilderness Travels Reviewed
1These were the stages of the Israelites’ journey when they went out of the land of Egypt by their military divisions under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. 2At the Lord’s command, Moses wrote down the starting points for the stages of their journey; these are the stages listed by their starting points:
3They departed from Rameses # Gn 47:11; Ex 1:11; 12:37 in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the month. On the day after the Passover # Ex 12:11-48; Lv 23:5; Nm 9:2-14 the Israelites went out triumphantly # Lit with a raised hand ; Ex 14:8 # Ex 14:8 in the sight of all the Egyptians. 4Meanwhile, the Egyptians were burying every firstborn male the Lord had struck down among them, for the Lord had executed judgment against their gods. # Ex 12:12 5The Israelites departed from Rameses and camped at Succoth. # Ex 12:37
6They departed from Succoth and camped at Etham, # Ex 13:20 which is on the edge of the wilderness.
7They departed from Etham and turned back to Pi-hahiroth, which faces Baal-zephon, and they camped before Migdol. # Ex 14:2,9; Jr 46:14; Ezk 30:6
8They departed from Pi-hahiroth # Some Hb mss, Sam, Syr, Vg; other Hb mss read from before Hahiroth and crossed through the middle of the sea # Ex 14:22-26 into the wilderness. They took a three-day journey into the Wilderness of Etham and camped at Marah. # Ex 15:23
9They departed from Marah and came to Elim. # Ex 15:27; 16:1 There were 12 springs of water and 70 date palms at Elim, so they camped there.
10They departed from Elim and camped by the Red Sea.
11They departed from the Red Sea and camped in the Wilderness of Sin. # Ex 16:1; 17:1
12They departed from the Wilderness of Sin and camped in Dophkah.
13They departed from Dophkah and camped at Alush.

37They departed from Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor # Nm 21:4; 33:37-41; Dt 32:50 on the edge of the land of Edom. 38At the Lord’s command, Aaron the priest climbed Mount Hor and died there on the first day of the fifth month in the fortieth year after the Israelites went out of the land of Egypt. # Nm 20:23-29 39Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor. 40At that time the Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev in the land of Canaan, # Nm 21:1-3 heard the Israelites were coming.
41They departed from Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah.
42They departed from Zalmonah and camped at Punon.
43They departed from Punon and camped at Oboth. # Nm 21:10-11
44They departed from Oboth and camped at Iye-abarim on the border of Moab. # Nm 21:11
45They departed from Iyim # A shortened form of Iye-abarim and camped at Dibon-gad. # Nm 32:34; Neh 11:25; Jr 48:18,22
46They departed from Dibon-gad and camped at Almon-diblathaim. # Jr 48:22
47They departed from Almon-diblathaim and camped in the Abarim # Nm 27:12; Dt 32:49; Jr 22:20 range facing Nebo. # Dt 32:49; 34:1
48They departed from the Abarim range and camped on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho. # Nm 22:1 49They camped by the Jordan from Beth-jeshimoth # Jos 12:3; 13:20; Ezk 25:9 to the Acacia Meadow # Or Abel-shittim # Nm 25:1; Jos 2:1; 3:1; Jl 3:18; Mc 6:5 on the plains of Moab.
Instructions for Occupying Canaan
50The Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, 51“Tell the Israelites: When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you, destroy all their stone images # Lv 26:1; Ezk 8:12 and cast images, # Ex 32:4,8; 34:17; Lv 19:4; Dt 27:15 and demolish all their high places. 53You are to take possession of the land and settle in it because I have given you the land # Gn 12:7; 15:18; 24:7; 35:12 to possess. 54You are to receive the land as an inheritance by lot according to your clans. Increase the inheritance for a large clan and decrease it for a small one. Whatever place the lot indicates for someone will be his. You will receive an inheritance according to your ancestral tribes. 55But if you don’t drive out the inhabitants of the land before you, those you allow to remain will become thorns in your eyes and in your sides; they will harass you in the land where you will live. 56And what I had planned to do to them, I will do to you.” # Dt 28:15

Israel’s Journey From Egypt
1Here is a list of the places the Israelites went when they left Egypt. They were organized in groups like an army and were led by Moses and Aaron. 2Following the Lord’s command, Moses kept a record of each place they stayed before moving on to the next place. These are all the places they went:
3On the 15th day of the first month, they left Rameses. That morning after Passover, the Israelites marched out of Egypt with their arms raised in victory. All the people of Egypt saw them. 4The Egyptians were burying all the people the Lord killed. They were burying all their firstborn sons. The Lord had shown his judgment against the gods#33:4 gods This might be the false gods of Egypt. Or here, it might mean the king and other powerful leaders in Egypt. of Egypt.
5The Israelites left Rameses and traveled to Succoth. 6From Succoth they traveled to Etham. They camped there at the edge of the desert. 7They left Etham and went to Pi Hahiroth. This was near Baal Zephon. They camped near Migdol.
8They left Pi Hahiroth and walked through the middle of the sea. They went toward the desert. Then they traveled for three days through the desert of Etham. The people camped at Marah.
9They left Marah and went to Elim and camped there. There were 12 springs of water and 70 palm trees there.
10They left Elim and camped near the Red Sea.#33:10 Red Sea Or “Reed Sea,” but see 1 Kings 9:26.
11They left the Red Sea and camped in the western Sinai desert.#33:11 western Sinai desert Literally, “desert of Sin.”
12They left there and camped at Dophkah.
13They left Dophkah and camped at Alush.
14They left Alush and camped at Rephidim. There was no water for the people to drink at that place.
15They left Rephidim and camped in the desert of Sinai.
16They left the desert of Sinai and camped at Kibroth Hattaavah.
17They left Kibroth Hattaavah and camped at Hazeroth.
18They left Hazeroth and camped at Rithmah.
19They left Rithmah and camped at Rimmon Perez.
20They left Rimmon Perez and camped at Libnah.
21They left Libnah and camped at Rissah.
22They left Rissah and camped at Kehelathah.
23They left Kehelathah and camped at Mount Shepher.
24They left Mount Shepher and camped at Haradah.
25They left Haradah and camped at Makheloth.
26They left Makheloth and camped at Tahath.
27They left Tahath and camped at Terah.
28They left Terah and camped at Mithcah.
29They left Mithcah and camped at Hashmonah.
30They left Hashmonah and camped at Moseroth.
31They left Moseroth and camped at Bene Jaakan.
32They left Bene Jaakan and camped at Hor Haggidgad.
33They left Hor Haggidgad and camped at Jotbathah.
34They left Jotbathah and camped at Abronah.
35They left Abronah and camped at Ezion Geber.
36They left Ezion Geber and camped at Kadesh, in the desert of Zin.
37They left Kadesh and camped at Hor. This was the mountain at the border of the country of Edom. 38Aaron the priest obeyed the Lord and went up Mount Hor. Aaron died at that place on the first day of the fifth month. That was the 40th year after the Israelites had left Egypt. 39Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.
40Arad was a town in the Negev, in the land of Canaan. The Canaanite king in that place heard that the Israelites were coming. 41The people left Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah.
42They left Zalmonah and camped at Punon.
43They left Punon and camped at Oboth.
44They left Oboth and camped at Iye Abarim. This was at the border of the country of Moab.
45They left Iye Abarim and camped at Dibon Gad.
46They left Dibon Gad and camped at Almon Diblathaim.
47They left Almon Diblathaim and camped on the mountains of Abarim near Nebo.
48They left the mountains of Abarim and camped in the Jordan Valley in Moab. This was near the Jordan River across from Jericho. 49They camped by the Jordan River in the Jordan Valley in Moab. Their camp went from Beth Jeshimoth to Acacia Field.
50There, the Lord spoke to Moses and said, 51“Speak to the Israelites and tell them this: You will cross the Jordan River. You will go into the land of Canaan. 52You will take the land from the people you find there. You must destroy all of their carved statues and idols. You must destroy all of their high places. 53You will take the land and you will settle there, because I am giving this land to you. It will belong to your family groups. 54Each of your family groups will get part of the land. You will throw lots to decide which family group gets each part of the country. Large family groups will get large parts of the land. Small family groups will get small parts of the land. The lots will show which family group gets which part of the land. Each tribe will get its part of the land.
55“You must force these other people to leave the country. If you let them stay in your country, they will bring many troubles to you. They will be like a needle#33:55 needle A thin barb or thorn from a plant. in your eye and a thorn in your side. They will bring many troubles to the country where you will be living. 56I showed you what I would do—and I will do that to you!”
