1Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, # Moses’ father-in-law’s first name was Jethro; Ex 2:18. the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, # = Desolation; another name for Mount Sinai; Dt 4:10,15; 18:16; Mal 4:4 the mountain of God. # Ex 2:18; 18:5; 1Kg 19:8 2Then the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush. # Dt 33:16; Ac 7:30 As Moses looked, he saw that the bush was on fire but was not consumed. 3So Moses thought: I must go over and look at this remarkable sight. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead My people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” 11But Moses asked God, “Who am I # Ex 6:12; 1Sm 18:18 that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt? ” 12He answered, “I will certainly be with you, # Gn 31:3; Jos 1:5; Rm 8:31 and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: when you bring the people out of Egypt, you will all worship # Or serve God at this mountain.” 13Then Moses asked God, “If I go to the Israelites and say to them: The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, ‘What is His name? ’ what should I tell them? ” 14God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. # Or I AM BECAUSE I AM, or I WILL BE WHO I WILL BE # Ex 6:3; Ps 68:4; Jn 8:58; Heb 13:8; Rv 1:4; 4:8 This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.” 15God also said to Moses, “Say this to the Israelites: Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever; # Ps 102:12; 135:13; Hs 12:5 this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.
