Revelation 14

The New Song on Mount Zion
1I looked, and the lamb was standing on Mount Zion. There were 144,000 people with him who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2Then I heard a sound from heaven like the noise of raging water and the noise of loud thunder. The sound I heard was like the music played by harpists. 3They were singing a new song in front of the throne, the four living creatures, and the leaders. Only the 144,000 people who had been bought on earth could learn the song.
4These 144,000 virgins are pure. They follow the lamb wherever he goes. They were bought from among humanity as the first ones offered to God and to the lamb. 5They’ve never told a lie. They are blameless.
The Harvest of the Earth
6I saw another angel flying overhead with the everlasting Good News to spread to those who live on earth—to every nation, tribe, language, and people. 7The angel said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the time has come for him to judge. Worship the one who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs.”
8Another angel, a second one, followed him, and said, “Fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen! She has made all the nations drink the wine of her passionate sexual sins.”
9Another angel, a third one, followed them, and said in a loud voice, “Whoever worships the beast or its statue, whoever is branded on his forehead or his hand, 10will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured unmixed into the cup of God’s anger. Then he will be tortured by fiery sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the lamb. 11The smoke from their torture will go up forever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast or its statue, or for anyone branded with its name.” 12In this situation God’s holy people, who obey his commands and keep their faith in Jesus, need endurance.
13I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: From now on those who die believing in the Lord are blessed.”
“Yes,” says the Spirit. “Let them rest from their hard work. What they have done goes with them.”
14Then I looked, and there was a white cloud, and on the cloud sat someone who was like the Son of Man. He had a gold crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15Another angel came out of the temple. He cried out in a loud voice to the one who sat on the cloud, “Swing your sickle, and gather the harvest. The time has come to gather it, because the harvest on the earth is overripe.”
16The one who sat on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the harvesting of the earth was completed.
17Another angel came out of the temple in heaven. He, too, had a sharp sickle. 18Yet another angel came from the altar with authority over fire. This angel called out in a loud voice to the angel with the sharp sickle, “Swing your sickle, and gather the bunches of grapes from the vine of the earth, because those grapes are ripe.” 19The angel swung his sickle on the earth and gathered the grapes from the vine of the earth. He threw them into the winepress of God’s anger. 20The grapes were trampled in the winepress outside the city. Blood flowed out of the winepress as high as a horse’s bridle for 1,600 stadia.#14:20 One stadion is equivalent to 607 feet.

6Then I saw another angel#Rv 7:2; 8:3; 14:15,17–18; 18:1 flying high overhead,#Rv 8:13 with the eternal gospel to announce to the inhabitants of the earth — to every nation, tribe, language, and people.#Rv 5:9; 7:9; 11:9; 13:7 7He spoke with a loud voice:#Rv 1:10; 8:13; 10:3 “Fear God#Gn 22:12; 42:18; Ps 66:16; Ec 5:7; 12:13; Ac 13:16,26; 1Pt 2:17 and give him glory,#Jos 7:19; 1Sm 6:5; Jr 13:16; Lk 17:18; Rv 4:9; 16:9; 19:7 because the hour of his judgment has come.#Rv 18:10 Worship the one who made heaven and earth,#Ps 115:15; 121:2; 124:8; 134:3; 146:6 the sea and the springs of water.”
8And another, a second angel, followed, saying, “It has fallen, Babylon the Great#Dn 4:30; Rv 16:19; 17:5; 18:2 has fallen.#14:8 Other mss omit the second has fallen She made all the nations drink the wine of her sexual immorality,#14:8 Or wine of her passionate immorality which brings wrath.”#Is 21:9; Jr 51:7–8,49; Rv 17:2,4; 18:2–3
9And another, a third angel, followed them and spoke with a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10he will also drink the wine of God’s wrath, which is poured full strength into the cup of his anger.#Ps 75:8; Is 51:17; Jr 25:15–17; Rv 17:2,4; 18:2–3 He will be tormented with fire and sulfur#Lk 17:29; Rv 20:10; 21:8 in the sight of the holy angels and in the sight of the Lamb, 11and the smoke of their torment will go up forever and ever.#Is 1:31; 34:10; 66:24; Rv 19:3 There is no rest#14:11 Or They have no rest#Ps 22:2; Is 23:12; 62:6; Jr 45:3; Lm 2:18 day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or anyone who receives the mark#Gn 4:15; Ex 12:13; Ezk 9:4,6; Rv 13:16; 16:2; 19:20 of its name. 12This calls for endurance from the saints,#Rv 13:10 who keep God’s commands and their faith in Jesus.”#14:12 Or and the faith of Jesus, or and faithfulness to Jesus
13Then I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”#Rv 1:3; 16:15; 19:9; 20:6; 22:7,14
“Yes,” says the Spirit, “so they will rest from their labors, since their works follow them.”
Reaping the Earth’s Harvest
14Then I looked, and there was a white cloud, and one like the Son of Man#14:14 Or like a son of man#Dn 7:13; Lk 21:27; Rv 1:13 was seated on the cloud, with a golden crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15Another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the one who was seated on the cloud, “Use your sickle and reap, for the time to reap has come, since the harvest of the earth is ripe.”#Jl 3:13 16So the one seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.
17Then another angel who also had a sharp sickle came out of the temple in heaven. 18Yet another angel, who had authority over fire, came from the altar, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Use your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the vineyard of the earth, because its grapes have ripened.” 19So the angel swung his sickle at the earth and gathered the grapes from the vineyard of the earth, and he threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.#Rv 16:19; 19:15 20Then the press was trampled outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press up to the horses’ bridles for about 180 miles.#14:20 Lit 1,600 stadia#Is 63:1–6
