Psalms 80

Psalm 80
For the choir director; according to shoshannim eduth; by Asaph; a psalm.
1Open your ears, O Shepherd of Israel,
the one who leads ⌞the descendants of⌟ Joseph like sheep,
the one who is enthroned over the angels.#80:1 Or “cherubim.”
2Appear in front of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh.
Wake up your power, and come to save us.
3O God, restore us and smile on us
so that we may be saved.
4O Lord God, commander of armies, how long will you smolder in anger
against the prayer of your people?
5You made them eat tears as food.
You often made them drink ⌞their own⌟ tears.
6You made us a source of conflict to our neighbors,
and our enemies made fun of us.
7O God, commander of armies, restore us and smile on us
so that we may be saved.
8You brought a vine from Egypt.
You forced out the nations and planted it.
9You cleared the ground for it
so that it took root and filled the land.
10Its shade covered the mountains.
Its branches covered the mighty cedars.
11It reached out with its branches to the Mediterranean Sea.
Its shoots reached the Euphrates River.
12Why did you break down the stone fences around this vine?
All who pass by are picking its fruit.
13Wild boars from the forest graze on it.
Wild animals devour it.
14O God, commander of armies, come back!
Look from heaven and see!
Come to help this vine.
15Take care of what your right hand planted,
the son you strengthened for yourself.
16The vine has been cut down and burned.
Let them be destroyed by the threatening look on your face.
17Let your power rest on the man you have chosen,
the son of man you strengthened for yourself.
18Then we will never turn away from you.
Give us life again, and we will call on you.
19O Lord God, commander of armies, restore us, and smile on us
so that we may be saved.

PSALM 80
To the chief Musician. On Shoshannim-Eduth. Of Asaph. A Psalm.
1Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that sittest between the cherubim, shine forth. 2Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up thy strength, and come to our deliverance. 3O God#GodHebrew: Elohim restore us; and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved. 4Jehovah, God#GodHebrew: Elohim of hosts, how long will thine anger smoke against the prayer of thy people? 5Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in large measure: 6Thou hast made us a strife unto our neighbours, and our enemies mock among themselves. 7Restore us, O God#GodHebrew: Elohim of hosts; and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.
8Thou broughtest a vine out of Egypt; thou didst cast out the nations, and plant it: 9Thou preparedst space before it, and it took deep root, and filled the land; 10The mountains were covered with its shadow, and the branches thereof were like cedars of ·God#GodHebrew: El 11It sent out its boughs unto the sea, and its shoots unto the river. 12Why hast thou broken down its fences, so that all who pass by the way do pluck it? 13The boar out of the forest doth waste it, and the beast of the field doth feed off it. 14O God#GodHebrew: Elohim of hosts, return, we beseech thee; look down from the heavens, and behold, and visit this vine; 15Even the stock which thy right hand hath planted, and the young plant thou madest strong for thyself. 16It is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance. 17Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou hast made strong for thyself. 18So will we not go back from thee. Revive us, and we will call upon thy name. 19Restore us, O Jehovah, God#GodHebrew: Elohim of hosts; cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.
