Psalm 63
A psalm by David when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
1O God, you are my God.
At dawn I search for you.
My soul thirsts for you.
My body longs for you
in a dry, parched land where there is no water.
2So I look for you in the holy place
to see your power and your glory.
3My lips will praise you
because your mercy is better than life ⌞itself⌟.
4So I will thank you as long as I live.
I will lift up my hands ⌞to pray⌟ in your name.
5You satisfy my soul with the richest foods.
My mouth will sing ⌞your⌟ praise with joyful lips.
6As I lie on my bed, I remember you.
Through the long hours of the night, I think about you.
7You have been my help.
In the shadow of your wings, I sing joyfully.
8My soul clings to you.
Your right hand supports me.
9But those who try to destroy my life
will go into the depths of the earth.
10They will be cut down by swords.
Their dead bodies will be left as food for jackals.
11But the king will find joy in God.
Everyone who takes an oath by God will brag,
but the mouths of liars will be shut.

Ardent Longing for God
1A psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.#1 Sm 24.
I
2O God, you are my God—
it is you I seek!
For you my body yearns;
for you my soul thirsts,
In a land parched, lifeless,
and without water.#Ps 42:2; 143:6; Is 26:9.
3I look to you in the sanctuary
to see your power and glory.
4For your love is better than life;#For your love is better than life: only here in the Old Testament is anything prized above life—in this case God’s love.
my lips shall ever praise you!
II
5I will bless you as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands, calling on your name.
6My soul shall be sated as with choice food,
with joyous lips my mouth shall praise you!
7I think of you upon my bed,
I remember you through the watches of the night
8You indeed are my savior,
and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy.#Ps 17:8; 36:8.
9My soul clings fast to you;
your right hand upholds me.
III
10But those who seek my life will come to ruin;
they shall go down to the depths of the netherworld!
11Those who would hand over my life to the sword shall
become the prey of jackals!
12But the king shall rejoice in God;
all who swear by the Lord#All who swear by the Lord: to swear by a particular god meant that one was a worshiper of that god (Is 45:23; 48:1; Zep 1:5). shall exult,
but the mouths of liars will be shut!#Ps 107:42.
