Psalm 60
For the choir director; according to shushan eduth; #60:0 Unknown musical term. a miktam by David; for teaching. When David fought Aram Naharaim and Aram Zobah, and ⌞when⌟ Joab came back and killed 12,000 men from Edom in the Dead Sea region.
1O God, you have rejected us.
You have broken down our defenses.
You have been angry.
Restore us!
2You made the land quake.
You split it wide open.
Heal the cracks in it
because it is falling apart.
3You have made your people experience hardships.
You have given us wine that makes us stagger.
4Yet, you have raised a flag for those who fear you
so that they can rally to it
when attacked by bows ⌞and arrows⌟. Selah
5Save ⌞us⌟ with your powerful hand, and answer us
so that those who are dear to you may be rescued.#60:5 Verses 5–12 are virtually identical in wording to Psalm 108:6–13.
6God has promised the following through his holiness:
“I will triumph!
I will divide Shechem.
I will measure the valley of Succoth.
7Gilead is mine.
Manasseh is mine.
Ephraim is the helmet on my head.
Judah is my scepter.
8Moab is my washtub.
I will throw my shoe over Edom.
I will shout in triumph over Philistia.”
9Who will bring me into the fortified city?
Who will lead me to Edom?
10Isn’t it you, O God, who rejected us?
Isn’t it you, O God, who refused to accompany our armies?
11Give us help against the enemy
because human assistance is worthless.
12With God we will display great strength.
He will trample our enemies.

Psalms 60
60
To the Overseer. — ‘Concerning the Lily of Testimony,’ a secret treasure of David, to teach, in his striving with Aram-Naharaim, and with Aram-Zobah, and Joab turneth back and smiteth Edom in the valley of Salt — twelve thousand.
1O God, Thou hadst cast us off, Thou hadst broken us — hadst been angry! — Thou dost turn back to us.
2Thou hast caused the land to tremble, Thou hast broken it, Heal its breaches, for it hath moved.
3Thou hast shewn Thy people a hard thing, Thou hast caused us to drink wine of trembling.
4Thou hast given to those fearing thee an ensign. To be lifted up as an ensign Because of truth. Selah.
5That Thy beloved ones may be drawn out, Save [with] Thy right hand, and answer us.
6God hath spoken in His holiness: I exult — I apportion Shechem, And the valley of Succoth I measure,
7Mine [is] Gilead, and mine [is] Manasseh, And Ephraim [is] the strength of my head, Judah [is] my lawgiver,
8Moab [is] my pot for washing, over Edom I cast my shoe, Shout, concerning me, O Philistia.
9Who doth bring me [to] a city of bulwarks? Who hath led me unto Edom?
10Is it not Thou, O God? hast Thou cast us off? And dost Thou not go forth, O God, with our hosts!
11Give to us help from adversity, And vain [is] the deliverance of man.
12In God we do mightily, And He treadeth down our adversaries!
