Psalm 57
For the choir director; al tashcheth; #57:0 Unknown musical term. a miktam by David when he fled from Saul into the cave.
1Have pity on me, O God. Have pity on me,
because my soul takes refuge in you.
I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
until destructive storms pass by.
2I call to God Most High,
to the God who does everything for me.
3He sends his help from heaven and saves me.
He disgraces the one who is harassing me. Selah
God sends his mercy and his truth!
4My soul is surrounded by lions.
I must lie down with man-eating lions.
Their teeth are spears and arrows.
Their tongues are sharp swords.
5May you be honored above the heavens, O God.
Let your glory extend over the whole earth.
6 ⌞My enemies⌟ spread out a net to catch me.
(My soul is bowed down.)
They dug a pit to trap me,
but then they fell into it. Selah
7My heart is confident, O God.
My heart is confident.
I want to sing and make music.#57:7 Verses 7–11 are virtually identical in wording to Psalm 108:1–5.
8Wake up, my soul! #57:8 Or “my glory.”
Wake up, harp and lyre!
I want to wake up at dawn.
9I want to give thanks to you among the people, O Lord.
I want to make music to praise you among the nations
10because your mercy is as high as the heavens.
Your truth reaches the skies.
11May you be honored above the heavens, O God.
Let your glory extend over the whole earth.

Psalms 57
57
To the director: To the tune “Don’t Destroy.” A miktam of David written when he escaped from Saul and went into the cave.
1God, be merciful to me.
Be kind because my soul trusts in you.
I have come to you for protection,
while the trouble passes.
2I pray to God Most High for help,
and he takes care of me completely!
3From heaven he helps me and saves me.
He will punish the one who attacks me. Selah
God will remain loyal to me
and send his love to protect me.
4My life is in danger.
My enemies are all around me.
They are like man-eating lions,
with teeth like spears or arrows
and tongues like sharp swords.
5God, rise above the heavens!
Let all the world see your glory.
6My enemies set a trap for my feet
to bring me down.
They dug a deep pit to catch me,
but they fell into it. Selah
7God, I am ready, heart and soul,
to sing songs of praise.
8Wake up, my soul!
Harps and lyres, wake up,
and let’s wake the dawn!
9My Lord, I will praise you before all people.
I will sing praises about you to every nation.
10Your faithful love is higher
than the highest clouds in the sky!
11Rise above the heavens, God.
Let all the world see your glory.
