Psalms 125
125
Psalm 125
A song for going up to worship.
1Those who trust the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which can never be shaken.
It remains firm forever.
2 ⌞As⌟ the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people now and forever.
3A wicked ruler will not be allowed to govern
the land set aside for righteous people.
That is why righteous people do not use their power to do wrong.
4Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
to those whose motives are decent.
5But when people become crooked,
the Lord will lead them away with troublemakers.
Let there be peace in Israel!

Psalms 125
125
Israel’s Protector
1A song of ascents.
Those trusting in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
unshakable, forever enduring.#Prv 10:25.
2As mountains surround Jerusalem,
the Lord surrounds his people
both now and forever.#Dt 32:11.
3The scepter of the wicked will not prevail
in the land allotted to the just,#The land allotted to the just: lit., “the lot of the righteous.” The promised land was divided among the tribes of Israel by lot (Nm 26:55; Jos 18). The righteous are the members of the people who are obedient to God. If the domination of the wicked were to continue in the land, even the just would be infected by their evil attitudes.
Lest the just themselves
turn their hands to evil.
4Do good, Lord, to the good,
to those who are upright of heart.#Ps 18:25ff.
5But those who turn aside to crooked ways
may the Lord send down with the evildoers.#Prv 3:32.
Peace upon Israel!#Ps 128:6.
