Psalms 11
11
Psalm 11
For the choir director; by David.
1I have taken refuge in the Lord.
How can you say to me:
“Flee to your mountain like a bird?
2Wicked people bend their bows.
They set their arrows against the strings
to shoot in the dark at people whose motives are decent.
3When the foundations ⌞of life⌟ are undermined,
what can a righteous person do?”
4The Lord is in his holy temple.
The Lord’s throne is in heaven.
His eyes see.
They examine Adam’s descendants.
5The Lord tests righteous people,
but he hates wicked people and the ones who love violence.
6He rains down fire and burning sulfur upon wicked people.
He makes them drink from a cup filled with scorching wind.
7The Lord is righteous.
He loves a righteous way of life.
Decent people will see his face.

Psalms 11
11
Confidence in the LORD#Ps 11 Hebrew title: By David.
1I trust in the LORD for safety.
How foolish of you to say to me,
“Fly away like a bird to the mountains,#11.1 Some ancient translations like a bird to the mountains; Hebrew bird, to your (plural) mountains.
2because the wicked have drawn their bows and aimed their arrows
to shoot from the shadows at good people.
3There is nothing a good person can do
when everything falls apart.”
4The LORD is in his holy temple;
he has his throne in heaven.
He watches people everywhere
and knows what they are doing.
5He examines the good and the wicked alike;
the lawless he hates with all his heart.
6He sends down flaming coals#11.6 One ancient translation coals; Hebrew traps. and burning sulphur on the wicked;
he punishes them with scorching winds.
7The LORD is righteous and loves good deeds;
those who do them will live in his presence.
