2 Chronicles 1
1
God Appears to Solomon
(1 Kings 3:1–15; 10:26–29)
1Solomon, son of David, strengthened his position over the kingdom. The Lord his God was with him and made him very powerful.
2Solomon spoke to all Israel—to the commanders of regiments and battalions, judges, every prince, and the heads of Israel’s families. 3Then Solomon and the entire assembly went to the place of worship in Gibeon because God’s tent of meeting was there. Moses, the Lord’s servant, had made the tent in the desert. 4(However, David had ⌞already⌟ brought God’s ark from Kiriath Jearim to a place he had prepared for it. He had put up a tent for it in Jerusalem.) 5The bronze altar that Bezalel, son of Uri and grandson of Hur, had made was in front of the Lord’s tent. There Solomon and the assembly worshiped the Lord. 6In the Lord’s presence Solomon went to the bronze altar in front of the tent of meeting and sacrificed 1,000 burnt offerings on it.
7That night God appeared to Solomon. He said, “What can I give you?”
8Solomon responded to God, “You’ve shown great love to my father David, and you’ve made me king in his place. 9Now, Lord God, you’ve kept the promise you made to my father David. You’ve made me king of people who are as numerous as specks of dust on the ground. 10Give me wisdom and knowledge so that I may lead these people. After all, who can judge this great people of yours?”
11God replied to Solomon, “I know this request is from your heart. You didn’t ask for riches, fortunes, honor, or the death of those who hate you. You didn’t even ask for a long life. Instead, you’ve asked for wisdom and knowledge to judge my people, over whom I made you king. 12So wisdom and knowledge will be given to you. I will also give you riches, fortunes, and honor like no other king before or after you.”
13Solomon went from the tent of meeting at the place of worship in Gibeon to Jerusalem. And he ruled Israel.
14Solomon built up ⌞his army⌟ with chariots and war horses. He had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 war horses. He stationed ⌞some⌟ in chariot cities and ⌞others⌟ with himself in Jerusalem.
15The king made silver and gold as common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedars as plentiful as fig trees in the foothills.
16Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and Kue. The king’s traders bought them from Kue for a fixed price. 17They imported each chariot from Egypt for 15 pounds of silver and each horse for 6 ounces of silver. For the same price they obtained horses to export to all the Hittite and Aramean kings.

2 Paralipomenon 1
1
1And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom: and the Lord his God was with him, and magnified him to a high degree.
2And Solomon gave orders to all Israel, to the captains of thousands, and of hundreds, and to the rulers, and to the judges of all Israel, and the heads of the families.
3And he went with all the multitude to the high place of Gabaon, where was the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord, which Moses the servant of God made, in the wilderness.
4For David had brought the ark of God from Cariathiarim to the place, which he had prepared for it, and where he had pitched a tabernacle for it; that is, in Jerusalem.
5And the altar of brass, which Beseleel the son of Uri the son of Hur had made, was there before the tabernacle of the Lord. And Solomon and all the assembly sought it.
6And Solomon went up thither to the brazen altar, before the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up on it a thousand victims.
7And, behold, that night God appeared to him, saying: Ask what thou wilt that I should give thee.
8And Solomon said to God: Thou hast shewn great kindness to my father David: and hast made me king in his stead.
9Now therefore, O Lord God, let thy word be fulfilled, which thou hast promised to David my father: for thou hast made me king over thy great people, which is as innumerable as the dust of the earth.
10Give me wisdom and knowledge that I may come in and go out before thy people: for who can worthily judge this thy people, which is so great?
11And God said to Solomon: Because this choice hath pleased thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, and wealth, and glory, nor the lives of them that hate thee, nor many days of life: but hast asked wisdom and knowledge, to be able to judge my people, over which I have made thee king,
12Wisdom and knowledge are granted to thee: and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and glory, so that none of the kings before thee, nor after thee, shall be like thee.
13Then Solomon came from the high place of Gabaon to Jerusalem before the tabernacle of the covenant, and reigned over Israel.
14And he gathered to himself chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen: and he placed them in the cities of the chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem.
15And the king made silver and gold to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar-trees as sycamores, which grow in the plains in great multitude.
16And there were horses brought him from Egypt, and from Coa by the king's merchants, who went, and bought at a price,
17A chariot of four horses for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. In like manner, market was made in all the kingdoms of the Hethites, and of the kings of Syria.
