The Gate for the Prince
1Then he brought me #[ch. 43:5] back to the outer gate of the sanctuary, #See ch. 43:1which faces east. And it was shut. 2And the Lord said to me, “This gate shall remain shut; it shall not be opened, and no one shall enter by it, for #[ch. 43:4]the Lord, the God of Israel, has entered by it. Therefore it shall remain shut. 3Only #ch. 34:24; 37:25; 45:7; 46:2 the prince may sit in it #[Gen. 31:54] to eat bread before the Lord. He #ch. 46:2, 12shall enter by way of the vestibule of the gate, and shall go out by the same way.”
4Then he brought me by way of #ch. 40:20 the north gate to the front of the temple, and I looked, and behold, #See ch. 43:5 the glory of the Lord filled the temple of the Lord. And #See ch. 1:28I fell on my face. 5And the Lord said to me, #See ch. 2:1 “Son of man, mark well, #ch. 40:4 see with your eyes, #ch. 40:4 and hear with your ears all that I shall tell you concerning #[ch. 43:11]all the statutes of the temple of the Lord and all its laws. And mark well #[ch. 43:11]the entrance to the temple and all the exits from the sanctuary. 6And say to #See ch. 2:3 the rebellious house,#44:6 Septuagint; Hebrew lacks house to the #ch. 40:4 house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: O house of Israel, #ch. 45:9; [1 Pet. 4:3]enough of all your abominations, 7in #[ver. 9; Neh. 7:64, 65; Acts 21:28] admitting foreigners, #[Jer. 9:26; Acts 7:51] uncircumcised in heart and flesh, to be in my sanctuary, #ch. 23:39profaning my temple, when you offer to me my food, the fat and the blood. You#44:7 Septuagint, Syriac, Vulgate; Hebrew They have broken my covenant, in addition to all your abominations. 8And #[ch. 22:26]you have not kept charge of my holy things, but you have set others to keep my charge for you in my sanctuary.
9“Thus says the Lord God: #[ver. 7]No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and flesh, of all the foreigners who are among the people of Israel, shall enter my sanctuary. 10But #[ver. 15; ch. 48:11] the Levites who went far from me, going astray from me after their idols #ch. 48:11 when Israel went astray, #See ch. 4:4shall bear their punishment.#44:10 Or iniquity; also verse 12 11They shall be #ch. 46:24 ministers in my sanctuary, having oversight #[1 Chr. 26:1] at the gates of the temple and ministering in the temple. They shall slaughter the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and #Num. 16:9they shall stand before the people, to minister to them. 12Because they ministered to them before their idols and became #ch. 7:19; 14:3, 4, 7; [Mal. 2:8] a stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Israel, therefore I have #Ps. 106:26sworn concerning them, declares the Lord God, and they shall bear their punishment. 13They #Num. 18:3; 2 Kgs. 23:9 shall not come near to me, to serve me as priest, nor come near any of my holy things and the things that are most holy, but #See ch. 32:24they shall bear their shame and the abominations that they have committed. 14Yet I will appoint them to keep #See ch. 40:45 charge of the temple, #1 Chr. 23:28, 32to do all its service and all that is to be done in it.
