2 Corinthians 2
2
1But I determined this with myself, not to come to you again in sorrow.
2For if I make you sorrowful, who is he then that can make me glad, but the same who is made sorrowful by me?
3And I wrote this same to you; that I may not, when I come, have sorrow upon sorrow, from them of whom I ought to rejoice: having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
4For out of much affliction and anguish of heart, I wrote to you with many tears: not that you should be made sorrowful: but that you might know the charity I have more abundantly towards you.
5And if any one have caused grief, he hath not grieved me; but in part, that I may not burden you all.
6To him who is such a one, this rebuke is sufficient, which is given by many:
7So that on the contrary, you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
8Wherefore, I beseech you, that you would confirm your charity towards him.
9For to this end also did I write, that I may know the experiment of you, whether you be obedient in all things.
10And to whom you have pardoned any thing, I also. For, what I have pardoned, if I have pardoned any thing, for your sakes have I done it in the person of Christ.
11That we be not overreached by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his devices.
12And when I was come to Troas for the gospel of Christ, and a door was opened unto me in the Lord,
13I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother; but bidding them farewell, I went into Macedonia.
14Now thanks be to God, who always maketh us to triumph in Christ Jesus, and manifesteth the odour of his knowledge by us in every place.
15For we are the good odour of Christ unto God, in them that are saved, and in them that perish.
16To the one indeed the odour of death unto death: but to the others the odour of life unto life. And for these things who is so sufficient?
17For we are not as many, adulterating the word of God; but with sincerity, but as from God, before God, in Christ we speak.

2 Corinthians 2
2
1For I made up my mind #ch. 1:23; [ch. 12:20, 21; 13:10]not to make another painful visit to you. 2For #[ch. 7:8]if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained? 3And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have made me rejoice, #ch. 8:22; Gal. 5:10; 2 Thess. 3:4; [ch. 7:16]for I felt sure of all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all. 4For #ch. 7:8, 12; See Acts 20:19I wrote to you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you.
Forgive the Sinner
5Now #[1 Cor. 5:1, 2] if anyone has caused pain, #[Gal. 4:12] he has caused it not to me, but #ch. 1:14in some measure—not to put it too severely—to all of you. 6For such a one, #1 Cor. 5:4, 5; [ch. 7:11]this punishment by the majority is enough, 7so #Gal. 6:1; [Eph. 4:32]you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him. 9For this is why I wrote, that I might #Phil. 2:22 test you and know #ch. 7:15; 10:6whether you are obedient in everything. 10Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, 11so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for #See 1 Pet. 5:8we are not ignorant of his designs.
Triumph in Christ
12When #Acts 16:8; 20:6 I came to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ, even though #See Acts 14:27a door was opened for me in the Lord, 13my spirit #ch. 7:5was not at rest because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I took leave of them and went on to Macedonia.
14But #ch. 8:16; [ch. 9:15]; See Rom. 6:17 thanks be to God, who in Christ always #Col. 2:15 (Gk.) leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads #Eph. 5:2; Phil. 4:18; [Song 1:3]the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15For we are the aroma of Christ to God among #See 1 Cor. 1:18 those who are being saved and among #ch. 4:3those who are perishing, 16#[Luke 2:34; John 9:39; 1 Pet. 2:7, 8] to one a fragrance from death to death, #[Luke 2:34; John 9:39; 1 Pet. 2:7, 8] to the other a fragrance from life to life. #ch. 3:5, 6Who is sufficient for these things? 17For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.
