PSALM 72
For Solomon.
1O God#GodHebrew: Elohim give the king thy judgments, and thy righteousness unto the king's son.
2He will judge thy people with righteousness, and thine afflicted with judgment. 3The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the hills, by righteousness. 4He will do justice to the afflicted of the people; he will save the children of the needy, and will break in pieces the oppressor. 5They shall fear thee as long as sun and moon endure, from generation to generation. 6He shall come down like rain on the mown grass, as showers that water the earth. 7In his days shall the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace till the moon be no more. 8And he shall have dominion from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth. 9The dwellers in the desert shall bow before him, and his enemies shall lick the dust. 10The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall render presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer tribute: 11Yea, all kings shall bow down before him; all nations shall serve him. 12For he will deliver the needy who crieth, and the afflicted, who hath no helper; 13He will have compassion on the poor and needy, and will save the souls of the needy: 14He will redeem their souls from oppression and violence, and precious shall their blood be in his sight. 15And he shall live; and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba; and prayer shall be made for him continually: all the day shall he be blessed. 16There shall be abundance of corn in the earth, upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon; and they of the city shall bloom like the herb of the earth. 17His name shall endure for ever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall bless themselves in him; all nations shall call him blessed.
18Blessed be Jehovah Elohim, the God#GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, who alone doeth wondrous things! 19And blessed be his glorious name for ever! and let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen, and Amen. 20The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

Psalm 72
By Solomon.
1O God, give the king your justice
and the king’s son #72:1 According to ancient Jewish and Christian tradition, “king” and “king’s son” refer to the Messiah. your righteousness
2so that he may judge your people with righteousness
and your oppressed ⌞people⌟ with justice.
3May the mountains bring peace to the people
and the hills bring righteousness.
4May he grant justice to the people who are oppressed.
May he save the children of needy people
and crush their oppressor.
5May they fear you as long as the sun and moon ⌞shine⌟—
throughout every generation.
6May he be like rain that falls on ⌞freshly⌟ cut grass,
like showers that water the land.
7May righteous people blossom in his day.
May there be unlimited peace until the moon no longer ⌞shines⌟.
8May he rule from sea to sea,
from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.
9May the people of the desert kneel in front of him.
May his enemies lick the dust.
10May the kings from Tarshish and the islands bring presents.
May the kings from Sheba and Seba bring gifts.
11May all kings worship him.
May all nations serve him.
12He will rescue the needy person who cries for help
and the oppressed person who has no one’s help.
13He will have pity on the poor and needy
and will save the lives of the needy.
14He will rescue them from oppression and violence.
Their blood will be precious in his sight.
15May he live long.
May the gold from Sheba be given to him.
May ⌞the people⌟ pray for him continually.
May ⌞they⌟ praise him all day long.
16May there be plenty of grain in the land.
May it wave ⌞in the breeze⌟ on the mountaintops,
its fruit like ⌞the treetops of⌟ Lebanon.
May those from the city flourish like the grass on the ground.
17May his name endure forever.
May his name continue as long as the sun ⌞shines⌟.
May all nations be blessed through him and call him blessed.
18Thank the Lord God, the God of Israel,
who alone does miracles.
19Thanks be to his glorious name forever.
May the whole earth be filled with his glory.
Amen and amen!
