The Acts 2
2
1And when the day of Pentecost was now accomplishing, they were all together in one place. 2And there came suddenly a sound out of heaven as of a violent impetuous blowing, and filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared to them parted tongues, as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave to them to speak forth.
5Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, pious men, from every nation of those under heaven. 6But the rumour of this having spread, the multitude came together and were confounded, because each one heard them speaking in his own dialect. 7And all were amazed and wondered, saying, Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galilaeans? 8and how do we hear them each in our own dialect in which we have been born, 9Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those who inhabit Mesopotamia, and Judaea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10both Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya which adjoin Cyrene, and the Romans sojourning here, both Jews and proselytes, 11Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our own tongues the great things of God? 12And they were all amazed and in perplexity, saying one to another, What would this mean? 13But others mocking said, They are full of new wine.
14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke forth to them, Men of Judaea, and all ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give heed to my words: 15for these are not full of wine, as ye suppose, for it is the third hour of the day; 16but this is that which was spoken through the prophet Joel, 17And it shall be in the last days, saith God, that I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your elders shall dream with dreams; 18yea, even upon my bondmen and upon my bondwomen in those days will I pour out of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy. 19And I will give wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20the sun shall be changed to darkness and the moon to blood, before the great and gloriously appearing day of the Lord come. 21And it shall be that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 22Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus the Nazaraean, a man borne witness to by God to you by works of power and wonders and signs, which God wrought by him in your midst, as yourselves know 23— him, given up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye, by the hand of lawless men, have crucified and slain. 24Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death, inasmuch as it was not possible that he should be held by its power; 25for David says as to him, I foresaw the Lord continually before me, because he is at my right hand that I may not be moved. 26Therefore has my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted; yea more, my flesh also shall dwell in hope, 27for thou wilt not leave my soul in hades, nor wilt thou give thy gracious one to see corruption. 28Thou hast made known to me the paths of life, thou wilt fill me with joy with thy countenance. 29Brethren, let it be allowed to speak with freedom to you concerning the patriarch David, that he has both died and been buried, and his monument is amongst us unto this day. 30Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath, of the fruit of his loins to set upon his throne; 31he, seeing it before, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that neither has he been left in hades nor his flesh seen corruption. 32This Jesus has God raised up, whereof all we are witnesses. 33Having therefore been exalted by the right hand of God, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which ye behold and hear. 34For David has not ascended into the heavens, but he says himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit at my right hand 35until I have put thine enemies to be the footstool of thy feet. 36Let the whole house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him, this Jesus whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37And having heard it they were pricked in heart, and said to Peter and the other apostles, What shall we do, brethren? 38And Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptised, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for remission of sins, and ye will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For to you is the promise and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God may call. 40And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation. 41Those then who had accepted his word were baptised; and there were added in that day about three thousand souls.
42And they persevered in the teaching and fellowship of the apostles, in breaking of bread and prayers. 43And fear was upon every soul, and many wonders and signs took place through the apostles' means. 44And all that believed were together, and had all things common, 45and sold their possessions and substance, and distributed them to all, according as any one might have need. 46And every day, being constantly in the temple with one accord, and breaking bread in the house, they received their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47praising God, and having favour with all the people; and the Lord added to the assembly daily those that were to be saved.

Acts 2
2
The Coming of the Holy Spirit
1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a noise like a strong, blowing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw something like flames of fire that were separated and stood over each person there. 4They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak different languages by the power the Holy Spirit was giving them.
5There were some religious Jews staying in Jerusalem who were from every country in the world. 6When they heard this noise, a crowd came together. They were all surprised, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7They were completely amazed at this. They said, “Look! Aren’t all these people that we hear speaking from Galilee? 8Then how is it possible that we each hear them in our own languages? We are from different places: 9Parthia, Media, Elam, Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, 10Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the areas of Libya near Cyrene, Rome 11(both Jews and those who had become Jews), Crete, and Arabia. But we hear them telling in our own languages about the great things God has done!” 12They were all amazed and confused, asking each other, “What does this mean?”
13But others were making fun of them, saying, “They have had too much wine.”
Peter Speaks to the People
14But Peter stood up with the eleven apostles, and in a loud voice he spoke to the crowd: “My fellow Jews, and all of you who are in Jerusalem, listen to me. Pay attention to what I have to say. 15These people are not drunk, as you think; it is only nine o’clock in the morning! 16But Joel the prophet wrote about what is happening here today:
17‘God says: In the last days
I will pour out my Spirit on all kinds of people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams.
18At that time I will pour out my Spirit
also on my male slaves and female slaves,
and they will prophesy.
19I will show miracles
in the sky and on the earth:
blood, fire, and thick smoke.
20The sun will become dark,
the moon red as blood,
before the overwhelming and glorious day of the Lord will come.
21Then anyone who calls on the Lord will be saved.’ #Joel 2:28–32
22“People of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus from Nazareth was a very special man. God clearly showed this to you by the miracles, wonders, and signs he did through Jesus. You all know this, because it happened right here among you. 23Jesus was given to you, and with the help of those who don’t know the law, you put him to death by nailing him to a cross. But this was God’s plan which he had made long ago; he knew all this would happen. 24God raised Jesus from the dead and set him free from the pain of death, because death could not hold him. 25For David said this about him:
‘I keep the Lord before me always.
Because he is close by my side,
I will not be hurt.
26So I am glad, and I rejoice.
Even my body has hope,
27because you will not leave me in the grave.
You will not let your Holy One rot.
28You will teach me how to live a holy life.
Being with you will fill me with joy.’#Psalm 16:8–11
29“Brothers and sisters, I can tell you truly that David, our ancestor, died and was buried. His grave is still here with us today. 30He was a prophet and knew God had promised him that he would make a person from David’s family a king just as he was. 31Knowing this before it happened, David talked about the Christ rising from the dead. He said:
‘He was not left in the grave.
His body did not rot.’
32So Jesus is the One whom God raised from the dead. And we are all witnesses to this. 33Jesus was lifted up to heaven and is now at God’s right side. The Father has given the Holy Spirit to Jesus as he promised. So Jesus has poured out that Spirit, and this is what you now see and hear. 34David was not the one who was lifted up to heaven, but he said:
‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit by me at my right side,
35until I put your enemies under your control.” ’#Psalm 110:1
36“So, all the people of Israel should know this truly: God has made Jesus —the man you nailed to the cross—both Lord and Christ.”
37When the people heard this, they felt guilty and asked Peter and the other apostles, “What shall we do?”
38Peter said to them, “Change your hearts and lives and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39This promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away. It is for everyone the Lord our God calls to himself.”
40Peter warned them with many other words. He begged them, “Save yourselves from the evil of today’s people!” 41Then those people who accepted what Peter said were baptized. About three thousand people were added to the number of believers that day. 42They spent their time learning the apostles’ teaching, sharing, breaking bread, and praying together.
The Believers Share
43The apostles were doing many miracles and signs, and everyone felt great respect for God. 44All the believers were together and shared everything. 45They would sell their land and the things they owned and then divide the money and give it to anyone who needed it. 46The believers met together in the Temple every day. They ate together in their homes, happy to share their food with joyful hearts. 47They praised God and were liked by all the people. Every day the Lord added those who were being saved to the group of believers.
