The Death of John the Baptist
Mk. 6:14-29; Lk. 9:7-9
1 During that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report regarding Jesus, 2 and he said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead, and for this reason, these miraculous powers are operating within him.” 3 For Herod, after seizing John, bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, 4 for John had been saying to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” 5 And although he wanted to kill him, he was afraid of the crowd, because they regarded him as a prophet.
6 But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in their midst* and pleased Herod. 7 So he promised with an oath to grant her whatever she requested. 8 And having been urged by her mother, she said, “Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.” 9 And although the king was sad, on account of his oaths and those reclining at the table with him,* he ordered it to be given. 10 And he sent and had John beheaded in the prison. 11 So his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12 And his disciples came, took away the corpse* and interred it. Then, they went away and told Jesus.
The Feeding of the Five Thousand
Mk. 6:30-44; Lk. 9:10-17; Jn. 6:1-14
13 Now when Jesus heard it, He withdrew from that place in a boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. 14 And as He* came ashore, He saw a large crowd, and had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 Now, when it was evening, the disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place and the hour is already late. Dismiss the crowds so that they may go away into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16 But Jesus said to them, “They have no need to go away. You give them something to eat.” 17 And they said to Him, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish.” 18 Then He said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19 And He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass in a relaxed posture. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven,* He blessed the meal.* And when He had broken them, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them* to the crowds. 20 And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over from the broken pieces, twelve full baskets. 21 Now those who ate were approximately five thousand men, apart from women and children.
Jesus Walks on the Water
Mk. 6:45-52; Jn. 6:15-21
22 And immediately, He urged the disciples to get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, until He had dismissed the crowds. 23 And after dismissing the crowds, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when evening came, He was there alone. 24 Meanwhile, the boat was now many stadia from the land,* being pounded by the waves, for the wind was against it. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night, He came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage; it is I. Do not be afraid.” 28 And Peter responded to Him, saying, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And coming out of the boat, Peter walked on the water and came towards Jesus. 30 But when he saw the vehement wind, he became afraid. And beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me.” 31 And immediately, Jesus stretched out His hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased raging. 33 So those in the boat worshiped Him, affirming, “Truly, You are the Son of God.”

Μk. 6:53-56
34 And having crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognised Him, they sent word into all that circumjacent region; and they brought to Him all those who were sick. 36 And they were begging Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment; and as many as touched it were cured.
