Numbers 2

Arrangement of the Tribes. 1The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: 2The Israelites shall camp, each in their own divisions, under the ensigns of their ancestral houses.#Nm 1:52. They shall camp at some distance all around the tent of meeting.
3#A similar arrangement of the tribes around the central sanctuary in the ideal Israel is given in Ez 48. Encamped on the east side, toward the sunrise, shall be the divisional camp of Judah, arranged in companies. The leader of the Judahites is Nahshon, son of Amminadab, 4and the enrollment of his company is seventy-four thousand six hundred. 5Encamped beside it is the tribe of Issachar. The leader of the Issacharites is Nethanel, son of Zuar, 6and the enrollment of his company is fifty-four thousand four hundred. 7Also the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the Zebulunites is Eliab, son of Helon, 8and the enrollment of his company is fifty-seven thousand four hundred. 9The total enrollment of the camp of Judah by companies is one hundred and eighty-six thousand four hundred. They shall be first on the march.
10The divisional camp of Reuben shall be on the south side, by companies. The leader of the Reubenites is Elizur, son of Shedeur, 11and the enrollment of his company is forty-six thousand five hundred. 12Encamped beside it is the tribe of Simeon. The leader of the Simeonites is Shelumiel, son of Zurishaddai, 13and the enrollment of his company is fifty-nine thousand three hundred. 14Next is the tribe of Gad. The leader of the Gadites is Eliasaph, son of Reuel, 15and the enrollment of his company is forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty. 16The total enrollment of the camp of Reuben by companies is one hundred and fifty-one thousand four hundred and fifty. They shall be second on the march.
17Then the tent of meeting and the camp of the Levites shall set out in the midst of the divisions. As they camp, so also they will march, each in place, by their divisions.
18The divisional camp of Ephraim shall be on the west side, by companies. The leader of the Ephraimites is Elishama, son of Ammihud, 19and the enrollment of his company is forty thousand five hundred. 20Beside it shall be the tribe of Manasseh. The leader of the Manassites is Gamaliel, son of Pedahzur, 21and the enrollment of his company is thirty-two thousand two hundred. 22Also the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of the Benjaminites is Abidan, son of Gideoni, 23and the enrollment of his company is thirty-five thousand four hundred. 24The total enrollment of the camp of Ephraim by companies is one hundred and eight thousand one hundred. They shall be third on the march.
25The divisional camp of Dan shall be on the north side, by companies. The leader of the Danites is Ahiezer, son of Ammishaddai, 26and the enrollment of his company is sixty-two thousand seven hundred. 27Encamped beside it shall be the tribe of Asher. The leader of the Asherites is Pagiel, son of Ochran, 28and the enrollment of his company is forty-one thousand five hundred. 29Also the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the Naphtalites is Ahira, son of Enan, 30and the enrollment of his company is fifty-three thousand four hundred. 31The total enrollment of the camp of Dan is one hundred and fifty-seven thousand six hundred. They shall be the last on the march, by divisions.
32#Nm 1:44–49. These are the enrollments of the Israelites according to their ancestral houses. The total enrollment of the camps by companies is six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty. 33The Levites, however, were not enrolled with the other Israelites, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 34The Israelites did just as the Lord had commanded Moses; both in camp and on the march they were in their own divisions, everyone by clan and according to ancestral house.

The Camps and Leaders of the Tribes
1And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 2Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the ensign of their father's house: far off about the tabernacle of the congregation shall they pitch. 3And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies: and Nahshon the son of Ammin´adab shall be captain of the children of Judah. 4And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred. 5And those that do pitch next unto him shall be the tribe of Is´sachar: and Nethan´e-el the son of Zu´ar shall be captain of the children of Is´sachar. 6And his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred. 7Then the tribe of Zeb´ulun: and Eli´ab the son of Helon shall be captain of the children of Zeb´ulun. 8And his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred. 9All that were numbered in the camp of Judah were a hundred thousand and fourscore thousand and six thousand and four hundred, throughout their armies: these shall first set forth.
10On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their armies: and the captain of the children of Reuben shall be Eli´zur the son of Shede´ur. 11And his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were forty and six thousand and five hundred. 12And those which pitch by him shall be the tribe of Simeon: and the captain of the children of Simeon shall be Shelu´mi-el the son of Zurishad´dai. 13And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred. 14Then the tribe of Gad: and the captain of the sons of Gad shall be Eli´asaph the son of Reu´el. 15And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and five thousand and six hundred and fifty. 16All that were numbered in the camp of Reuben were a hundred thousand and fifty and one thousand and four hundred and fifty, throughout their armies: and they shall set forth in the second rank.
17Then the tabernacle of the congregation shall set forward with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camp: as they encamp, so shall they set forward, every man in his place by their standards.
18On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of E´phra-im according to their armies: and the captain of the sons of E´phra-im shall be Elish´ama the son of Ammi´hud. 19And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty thousand and five hundred. 20And by him shall be the tribe of Manas´seh: and the captain of the children of Manas´seh shall be Gama´li-el the son of Pedah´zur. 21And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred. 22Then the tribe of Benjamin: and the captain of the sons of Benjamin shall be Ab´idan the son of Gide-o´ni. 23And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred. 24All that were numbered of the camp of E´phra-im were a hundred thousand and eight thousand and a hundred, throughout their armies: and they shall go forward in the third rank.
25The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the north side by their armies: and the captain of the children of Dan shall be Ahi-e´zer the son of Ammishad´dai. 26And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred. 27And those that encamp by him shall be the tribe of Asher: and the captain of the children of Asher shall be Pag´i-el the son of Ocran. 28And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and one thousand and five hundred. 29Then the tribe of Naph´tali: and the captain of the children of Naph´tali shall be Ahi´ra the son of Enan. 30And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred. 31All they that were numbered in the camp of Dan were a hundred thousand and fifty and seven thousand and six hundred: they shall go hindmost with their standards.
32These are those which were numbered of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers: all those that were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty. 33But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel; as the Lord commanded Moses.
34And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses: so they pitched by their standards, and so they set forward, every one after their families, according to the house of their fathers.
