Psalms 135
135
A Hymn of Praise
1Praise the LORD!
Praise his name, you servants of the LORD,
2who stand in the LORD's house,
in the Temple of our God.
3Praise the LORD, because he is good;
sing praises to his name, because he is kind.#135.3 he is kind; or it is pleasant to do so.
4He chose Jacob for himself,
the people of Israel for his own.
5I know that our LORD is great,
greater than all the gods.
6He does whatever he wishes
in heaven and on earth,
in the seas and in the depths below.
7He brings storm clouds from the ends of the earth;
he makes lightning for the storms,
and he brings out the wind from his storeroom.
8In Egypt he killed all the firstborn
of people and animals alike.
9There he performed miracles and wonders
to punish the king and all his officials.
10He destroyed many nations
and killed powerful kings:
11Sihon, king of the Amorites,
Og, king of Bashan,
and all the kings in Canaan.
12He gave their lands to his people;
he gave them to Israel.
13 LORD, you will always be proclaimed as God;
all generations will remember you.
14The LORD will defend his people;
he will take pity on his servants.

Ps 115.4–8; Rev 9.20 The gods of the nations are made of silver and gold;
they are formed by human hands.
16They have mouths, but cannot speak,
and eyes, but cannot see.
17They have ears, but cannot hear;
they are not even able to breathe.
18May all who made them and who trust in them
become#135.18 May all… become; or All who made them and who trust in them will become. like the idols they have made!
19Praise the LORD, people of Israel;
praise him, you priests of God!
20Praise the LORD, you Levites;
praise him, all you that worship him!
21Praise the LORD in Zion,
in Jerusalem, his home.
Praise the LORD!

Praise to God for His Power and Redemption
1Praise Yah!#Hebrew hallelujah Praise the name of Yahweh.
Praise him, O servants of Yahweh,
2who stand in the house#Or “temple” of Yahweh,
in the courts of the house#Or “temple” of our God.
3Praise Yah,#A shortened form of “Yahweh” for Yahweh is good.
Sing praises concerning his name, for it is pleasant.
4For Yah has chosen Jacob for himself,
Israel as his special possession.
5For I know that Yahweh is great,
and our Lord is greater than all gods.
6All that Yahweh desires, he does,
in heaven and on earth,
in the seas and all the depths.
7He causes clouds to rise from the edge of the earth;
he makes lightnings for the rain;
he brings out the wind from his storehouses.
8Who struck the firstborn of Egypt,
both of humans#Hebrew “human” and animals.#Hebrew “animal”
9He sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt,
against Pharaoh and all his servants.
10Who struck many nations
and killed mighty kings—
11Sihon the king of the Amorites,
and Og the king of Bashan,
and all the kingdoms of Canaan—
12and he gave their land as an inheritance,
an inheritance for his people Israel.
13O Yahweh, your name endures forever,
your renown#Literally “remembrance” throughout all generations,#Literally “for a generation and a generation”
14for Yahweh will plead the cause of his people
and will have compassion on his servants.
15The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
the work of the hands of humankind.
16They have mouths, but cannot speak;
they have eyes, but cannot see;
17they have ears, but cannot hear;
there is not even breath in their mouths.
18Those who make them become like them,
as does everyone who trusts in them.
19O house of Israel, bless Yahweh.
O house of Aaron, bless Yahweh.
20O house of Levi, bless Yahweh.
You who fear Yahweh, bless Yahweh.
21Blessed be Yahweh from Zion,
who dwells in Jerusalem. Praise Yah!#Hebrew hallelujah
