Mark 11
11
1 And as they were approaching Jerusalem and Bethania, toward the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
2 and he said to them: "Go into the village that is opposite you, and immediately upon entering there, you will find a colt tied, on which no man has yet sat. Release him and bring him.
3 And if anyone will say to you: 'What are you doing?' Say that the Lord has need of him. And he will immediately send him here."
4 And going out, they found the colt tied before the outer gate, at the meeting of two ways. And they untied him.
5 And some of those who were standing there said to them, "What are you doing by releasing the colt?"
6 And they spoke to them just as Jesus had instructed them. And they permitted them.
7 And they led the colt to Jesus. And they placed their garments on it; and he sat upon it.
8 Then many spread their garments along the way; but others cut down leafy branches from trees and scattered them on the way.
9 And those who went ahead, and those who followed, cried out saying: "Hosanna! Blessed is he who has arrived in the name of the Lord.
10 Blessed is the advent of the kingdom of our father David. Hosanna in the highest!"
11 And he entered into Jerusalem, into the temple. And having looked around at everything, since it was now the evening hour, he went out to Bethania with the twelve.
12 And the next day, as they were departing from Bethania, he was hungry.
13 And when he had seen a fig tree with leaves in the distance, he went to it, in case he might find something on it. And when he had gone to it, he found nothing but leaves. For it was not the season for figs.
14 And in response, he said to it, "From now on and forever, may no one eat fruit from you again!" And his disciples heard this.
15 And they went to Jerusalem. And when he had entered into the temple, he began to cast out the sellers and the buyers in the temple. And he overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the chairs of the vendors of doves.
16 And he would not permit anyone to carry goods through the temple.
17 And he taught them, saying: "Is it not written: 'For my house shall be called the house of prayer for all nations?' But you have made it into a den of robbers."
18 And when the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, had heard this, they sought a means by which they might destroy him. For they feared him, because the entire multitude was in admiration over his doctrine.
19 And when evening had arrived, he departed from the city.
20 And when they passed by in the morning, they saw that the fig tree had dried up from the roots.
21 And Peter, remembering, said to him, "Master, behold, the fig tree that you cursed has withered."
22 And in response, Jesus said to them: "Have the faith of God.
23 Amen I say to you, that whoever will say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and who will not have hesitated in his heart, but will have believed: then whatever he has said be done, it shall be done for him.
24 For this reason, I say to you, all things whatsoever that you ask for when praying: believe that you will receive them, and they will happen for you.
25 And when you stand to pray, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your sins.
26 But if you will not forgive, neither will your Father, who is in heaven, forgive you your sins."
27 And they went again to Jerusalem. And when he was walking in the temple, the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the elders approached him.
28 And they said to him: "By what authority do you do these things? And who has given you this authority, so that you would do these things?"
29 But in response, Jesus said to them: "I also will ask you one word, and if you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
30 The baptism of John: was it from heaven or from men? Answer me."
31 But they discussed it among themselves, saying: "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Then why did you not believe him?'
32 If we say, 'From men,' we fear the people. For they all hold that John was a true prophet."
33 And answering, they said to Jesus, "We do not know." And in response, Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."

The Triumphant Entry Into Jerusalem
Mt 21:1–11; Lk 19:28–40; Jn 12:12–19
1#Zec 14:4; Mt 21:17When they drew near Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, He sent out two of His disciples 2and said to them, “Go into the village opposite you. As soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it here. 3If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say ‘The Lord has need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.”
4They went their way and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street. And they untied it. 5Some of those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing untying the colt?” 6They answered just as Jesus had commanded. And they let them go. 7#Mt 21:4–5; 21:7–8They brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments on it. And He sat upon it. 8Many spread their garments on the street. And others cut down branches off the trees and scattered them on the street. 9#Ps 118:25–26; Mt 23:39Those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
“Hosanna!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’#Ps 118:26.
10#Lk 2:14; Ps 148:1 Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest!”
11Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. When He had looked around at everything, as the hour was now late, He went out to Bethany with the twelve.
The Cursing of the Fig Tree
Mt 21:18–19
12#Mt 4:2; 21:18–22On the next day when they had returned from Bethany, He was hungry. 13#Lk 13:6–9Seeing from afar a fig tree with leaves, He went to see if perhaps He might find anything on it. When He came to it, He found nothing except leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14#Mt 21:19Jesus said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And His disciples heard it.
The Cleansing of the Temple
Mt 21:12–17; Lk 19:45–48; Jn 2:13–22
15#Mt 21:12–16And they came to Jerusalem. Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who sold and bought in the temple, and He overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those who sold doves. 16And He would not allow anyone to carry any vessel through the temple. 17#Isa 56:7; Jer 7:11And He taught them, and said, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’#Isa 56:7.? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’#Jer 7:11. ”
18#Mt 7:28; Mk 12:12The scribes and chief priests heard it and looked for a way to kill Him. For they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching.
19#Lk 21:37; Mk 11:11When evening came, He went out of the city.
The Lesson From the Fig Tree
Mt 21:20–22
20In the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21Peter, calling to remembrance, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”
22Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. 23#Mt 17:20; 1Co 13:2For truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says. 24#1Jn 3:22Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you will have them. 25#Col 3:13; Mt 6:12And when you stand praying, forgive if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven may also forgive you your sins. 26But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your sins.”
The Question of Jesus’ Authority
Mt 21:23–27; Lk 20:1–8
27#Mt 21:23–27; Lk 20:1–8They came again to Jerusalem, and as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to Him, 28#Ex 2:14and said, “By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority to do them?”
29Jesus answered them, “I will also ask of you one question. Answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men? Answer Me.”
31They debated among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 32#Mt 14:5; 21:46But if we say, ‘From men’ ”—they feared the people, for everyone held John to be a real prophet.
33So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.”
Jesus answered them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
