The History of Adam’s Family
1This is the history of Adam’s#5:1 Adam This name means “man” or “people.” It is like the word meaning “earth” or “red clay.” family. When God created people, he made them like himself.#5:1 When God … like himself Literally, “He made him in the image of God.” See Gen. 1:27; 5:3. 2He created them male and female. And on the same day he made them, he blessed them and called them “humans.”#5:2 humans The Hebrew word means “Adam,” “man,” or “people.”
3After Adam was 130 years old, he had another son. This son looked just like Adam.#5:3 he had … like Adam Or “he fathered a son in his image and likeness.” In Hebrew this is like Gen. 1:27; 5:1. Adam named his son Seth. 4After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5So Adam lived a total of 930 years; then he died.
6After Seth was 105 years old, he had a son named Enosh. 7After Enosh was born, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. 8So Seth lived a total of 912 years; then he died.
9After Enosh was 90 years old, he had a son named Kenan. 10After Kenan was born, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. 11So Enosh lived a total of 905 years; then he died.
12After Kenan was 70 years old, he had a son named Mahalalel. 13After Mahalalel was born, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14So Kenan lived a total of 910 years; then he died.
15When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he had a son named Jared. 16After Jared was born, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17So Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years; then he died.
18After Jared was 162 years old, he had a son named Enoch. 19After Enoch was born, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20So Jared lived a total of 962 years; then he died.
21After Enoch was 65 years old, he had a son named Methuselah. 22After Methuselah was born, Enoch walked with God for 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23So Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24One day Enoch was walking with God, and he disappeared. God took him.#5:24 Or “Enoch pleased God. Enoch disappeared. God took him.”
25After Methuselah was 187 years old, he had a son named Lamech. 26After Lamech was born, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27So Methuselah lived a total of 969 years; then he died.
28When Lamech was 182 years old, he had a son. 29Lamech named his son Noah.#5:29 Noah This name is like the Hebrew word meaning “to rest,” “to be sorry,” or “comfort.” Lamech said, “We work very hard as farmers because God cursed the ground. But Noah will bring us rest.”
30After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31So Lamech lived a total of 777 years; then he died.
32After Noah was 500 years old, he had sons named Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Gen 1.27. This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created. 3When Adam had lived a hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. 4The days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years; and he had other sons and daughters. 5Thus all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died.
6When Seth had lived a hundred and five years, he became the father of Enosh. 7Seth lived after the birth of Enosh eight hundred and seven years, and had other sons and daughters. 8Thus all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years; and he died.
9When Enosh had lived ninety years, he became the father of Kenan. 10Enosh lived after the birth of Kenan eight hundred and fifteen years, and had other sons and daughters. 11Thus all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years; and he died.
12When Kenan had lived seventy years, he became the father of Ma-halalel. 13Kenan lived after the birth of Ma-halalel eight hundred and forty years, and had other sons and daughters. 14Thus all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years; and he died.
15When Ma-halalel had lived sixty-five years, he became the father of Jared. 16Ma-halalel lived after the birth of Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and had other sons and daughters. 17Thus all the days of Ma-halalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years; and he died.
18When Jared had lived a hundred and sixty-two years he became the father of Enoch. 19Jared lived after the birth of Enoch eight hundred years, and had other sons and daughters. 20Thus all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years; and he died.
21When Enoch had lived sixty-five years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22Enoch walked with God after the birth of Methuselah three hundred years, and had other sons and daughters. 23Thus all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24#Heb 11.5. Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
25When Methuselah had lived a hundred and eighty-seven years, he became the father of Lamech. 26Methuselah lived after the birth of Lamech seven hundred and eighty-two years, and had other sons and daughters. 27Thus all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years; and he died.
28When Lamech had lived a hundred and eighty-two years, he became the father of a son, 29and called his name Noah, saying, “Out of the ground which the Lord has cursed this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the toil of our hands.” 30Lamech lived after the birth of Noah five hundred and ninety-five years, and had other sons and daughters. 31Thus all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years; and he died.
32After Noah was five hundred years old, Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
