Berĕshith (Genesis) 5

1This is the book of the genealogy of Aḏam. In the day that Elohim created man, He made him in the likeness of Elohim.

2Male and female He created them, and He blessed them, and called their name ‘Aḏam’ in the day they were created.

3And Aḏam lived one hundred and thirty years, and brought forth a son in his own likeness, after his image, and called his name Shĕth.

4And after he brought forth Shĕth, the days of Aḏam were eight hundred years. And he brought forth sons and daughters.

5So all the days that Aḏam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.

6And Shĕth lived one hundred and five years, and brought forth Enosh.

7And after he brought forth Enosh, Shĕth lived eight hundred and seven years, and brought forth sons and daughters.

8So all the days of Shĕth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died.

9And Enosh lived ninety years, and brought forth Qĕynan.

10And after he brought forth Qĕynan, Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and brought forth sons and daughters.

11So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years, and he died.

12And Qĕynan lived seventy years, and brought forth Mahalal’ĕl.

13After he brought forth Mahalal’ĕl, Qĕynan lived eight hundred and forty years, and brought forth sons and daughters.

14So all the days of Qĕynan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died.

15And Mahalal’ĕl lived sixty-five years, and brought forth Yereḏ.

16And after he brought forth Yereḏ, Mahalal’ĕl lived eight hundred and thirty years, and brought forth sons and daughters.

17So all the days of Mahalal’ĕl were eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he died.

18And Yereḏ lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and brought forth Ḥanoḵ.

19And after he brought forth Ḥanoḵ, Yereḏ lived eight hundred years, and brought forth sons and daughters.

20So all the days of Yereḏ were nine hundred and sixty-two years, and he died.

21And Ḥanoḵ lived sixty-five years, and brought forth Methushelaḥ.

22And after he brought forth Methushelaḥ, Ḥanoḵ walked with Elohim three hundred years, and brought forth sons and daughters.

23So all the days of Ḥanoḵ were three hundred and sixty-five years.

24And Ḥanoḵ walked with Elohim. Then he was no more, for Elohim took him.

25And Methushelaḥ lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, and brought forth Lemeḵ.

26And after he brought forth Lemeḵ, Methushelaḥ lived seven hundred and eighty-two years, and brought forth sons and daughters.

27So all the days of Methushelaḥ were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died.

28And Lemeḵ lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and brought forth a son,

29and called his name Noaḥ, saying, “This one does comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which יהוה has cursed.”

30And after he brought forth Noaḥ, Lemeḵ lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and brought forth sons and daughters.

31So all the days of Lemeḵ were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died.

32And Noaḥ was five hundred years old, and Noaḥ brought forth Shĕm, Ḥam, and Yapheth.

1This is the book of the generations of Adam, in the day wherein God made man of nought. God made man to the image and likeness of God;

2God formed them male and female, and blessed them, and called the name of them Adam, in the day in which they were formed.

3Forsooth Adam lived an hundred years and thirty, and begat a son to his image and likeness, and called his name Seth.

4And the days of Adam after that he begat Seth were made eight hundred years, and he begat sons and daughters.

5And all the time in which Adam lived was made nine hundred years and thirty, and he was dead.

6And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos.

7And Seth lived after that he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

8And all the days of Seth were made nine hundred and twelve years, and he was dead.

9Forsooth Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan;

10after whose birth Enos lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

11And all the days of Enos were made nine hundred and five years, and he was dead.

12Also Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel.

13And Cainan lived after that he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters.

14And all the days of Cainan were made nine hundred and ten years, and he was dead.

15Forsooth Mahalaleel lived sixty years and five, and begat Jared.

16And Mahalaleel lived after that he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

17And all the days of Mahalaleel were made eight hundred [and] ninety and five years, and he was dead.

18And Jared lived an hundred and two and sixty years, and begat Enoch.

19And Jared lived after that he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

20And all the days of Jared were made nine hundred and two and sixty years, and he was dead.

21Forsooth Enoch lived five and sixty years, and begat Methuselah.

22And Enoch went with God; and Enoch lived after that he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

23And all the days of Enoch were three hundred and five and sixty years.

24And Enoch went with God, and appeared not afterward, for God took him away.

25Also Methuselah lived an hundred and seven and eighty years, and begat Lamech.

26And Methuselah lived after that he begat Lamech seven hundred and two and eighty years, and begat sons and daughters.

27And all the days of Methuselah were made nine hundred and nine and sixty years, and he was dead.

28Forsooth Lamech lived an hundred and two and eighty years, and begat a son;

29and [he] called his name Noah#5:29 This name sounds like the Hebrew for ‘rest’ or ‘relief’., and said, This man shall comfort us of the works and travails of our hands, in the land which the Lord cursed.

30And Lamech lived after that he begat Noah five hundred [and] ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters.

31And all the days of Lamech were made seven hundred [and] seventy and seven years, and he was dead.

32Forsooth Noah, when he was of five hundred years, begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
