Job: God is Awesome
1Then Job responded and said:
2“How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the arm without strength!
3How you have counseled the one without wisdom and revealed your abundant insights!
4To whom have you uttered words? Whose spirit has come from your mouth?
5“The dead tremble— those beneath the water and all that live in them.
6Sheol is naked before Him; Abaddon has no covering.
7He stretches out the north over the void; He suspends the earth over nothing.
8He wraps up the waters in His clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under them.
9He covers the face of the full moon, spreading His clouds over it.
10He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters, for a boundary between light and dark.
11The pillars of heaven tremble, astounded at His rebuke!
12By His power He churns up the sea; by His understanding He smashed Rahab.
13By His Ruach the heavens are clear; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
14Indeed, these are but glimpses of His ways; how faint the whisper, we hear of Him! Who then can understand the thunder of His might?”

Job Replies: God’s Majesty Is Unsearchable
1But Job answered:
2“How have you helped him who is without power?
How have you saved the arm that has no strength?
3How have you counseled him who has no wisdom?
And how have you plentifully declared sound knowledge?
4To whom have you uttered words?
And whose breath came from you?
5#Ge 6:4; Ps 88:10 “The departed spirits tremble under the waters,
and their inhabitants.
6#Ps 139:8; Pr 15:11 The underworld is naked before Him,
and destruction has no covering.
7#Job 9:8; Ge 1:1–2 He stretches out the north over empty space,
He hangs the earth upon nothing.
8#Pr 30:4 He binds up the waters in His thick clouds,
and the cloud is not broken under them.
9#Ps 97:2 He covers the face of the full moon
and spreads His cloud over it.
10#Job 38:8–11; Pr 8:29 He has circled the waters with boundaries,
until the day and night come to an end.
11The pillars of heaven tremble
and are astonished at His reproof.
12#Isa 51:15; Jer 31:35 He divides the sea with His power,
and by His understanding He strikes through the proud.
13#Isa 27:1; Ge 1:2 By His breath He has made fair the heavens;
His hand has formed the fleeing serpent.
14Indeed, these are but a part of His ways,
and how small a whisper we hear of Him!
But the thunder of His power who can understand?”
