Hebrews 7:26-27

This plan will explore what the letter of Hebrews can teach us in four different areas. 1) WHO GOD IS: God’s character and nature 2) WHO WE ARE: the identity of humanity and/or followers of Jesus 3) WHAT WE BELIEVE: core Christian doctrines 4) HOW WE LIVE: putting faith into action

Most of us aren’t familiar with the role of high priest, so Jesus being described that way in scripture seems rather unremarkable – just another of His many titles. But Godfrey Mmagawo has experienced otherwise. In this four-day plan, he shares how an easily overlooked piece of ancient Jewish culture has major implications for how we engage with culture today.

While the Old Testament priest advocated for the people before God, he was still a sinner. Christ, on the other hand, is our sinless high priest who has nevertheless walked in our shoes, experienced our temptations, and felt an earned and complete sympathy for us. He is not only priest but sacrifice, purchasing our forgiveness; and not only does He forgive, but His Spirit transforms us. He is indeed a Great High Priest!

Step into the holiest day of the Jewish year and meet Jesus within it. Over four inspiring days, discover how the Day of Atonement – Yom Kippur – points straight to Jesus (Yeshua) as our high priest and once-and-for-all sacrifice. Watch Old Testament shadows come to light in Jesus’ fulfillment of this Jewish holy day as you meditate on the joy that spurred Him through suffering to become our finished atonement.
