Revelation 20
20
The thousand years
1I saw an angel come down from heaven, carrying the key to the deep pit and a big chain. 2He chained the dragon for a thousand years. It is that old snake, who is also known as the devil and Satan.#Gn 3.1. 3Then the angel threw the dragon into the pit. He locked and sealed it, so that a thousand years would go by before the dragon could fool the nations again. But after that, it would have to be set free for a little while.
4I saw thrones, and sitting on those thrones were the ones who had been given the right to judge. I also saw the souls of the people who had their heads cut off because they had told about Jesus and preached God's message. They were the same ones who had not worshipped the beast or the idol, and they had refused to let its mark be put on their hands or foreheads. They will come to life and rule with Christ for a thousand years.#Dn 7.9,22.
5-6These people are the first to be raised to life, and they are especially blessed and holy. The second death#20.5,6 second death: See the note at 2.11. has no power over them. They will be priests for God and Christ and will rule with them for a thousand years.
No other dead people were raised to life until a thousand years later.
Satan is defeated
7At the end of the thousand years, Satan will be set free. 8He will fool the countries of Gog and Magog, which are at the far ends of the earth, and their people will follow him into battle. They will have as many followers as there are grains of sand along the beach,#Ez 7.2; Ez 38.2,9,15. 9and they will march all the way across the earth. They will surround the camp of God's people and the city that his people love. But fire will come down from heaven and destroy the whole army. 10Then the devil who fooled them will be thrown into the lake of fire and burning sulphur. He will be there with the beast and the false prophet, and they will be in pain day and night for ever and ever.
The final judgment
The judgment at the great white throne
11I saw a great white throne with someone sitting on it. Earth and heaven tried to run away, but there was nowhere for them to go.#Dn 7.9,10. 12I also saw all the dead people standing in front of that throne. Every one of them was there, no matter who they had once been. Several books were opened, and then the book of life#20.12 book of life: See the note at 3.5. was opened. The dead were judged by what those books said they had done.
13The sea gave up the dead people who were in it, and death and its kingdom also gave up their dead. Then everyone was judged by what they had done. 14Afterwards, death and its kingdom were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death.#20.14 second death: See the note at 2.11. 15Anyone whose name wasn't written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

1And I saw a messenger coming down from the heaven, having the key to the pit of the deep and a great chain in his hand.
2And he seized the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,
3and he threw him into the pit of the deep, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should lead the nations no more astray until the thousand years were ended. And after that he has to be released for a little while.
4And I saw thrones – and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them – and the lives of those who had been beheaded because of the witness they bore to יהושע and because of the Word of Elohim, and who did not worship the beast, nor his image, and did not receive his mark upon their foreheads or upon their hands. And they lived and reigned with Messiah for a thousand years
5(and the rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended) – this is the first resurrection.
6Blessed and set-apart is the one having part in the first resurrection. The second death possesses no authority over these, but they shall be priests of Elohim and of Messiah, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
7And when the thousand years have ended, Satan shall be released from his prison,
8and he shall go out to lead the nations astray which are in the four corners of the earth, Goḡ and Maḡoḡ,#Eze. 38:2 to gather them together for battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.
9And they came up over the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the set-apart ones and the beloved city. And fire came down from Elohim out of the heaven and consumed them.
10And the devil, who led them astray, was thrown into the lake of fire and sulphur where the beast and the false prophet are. And they shall be tortured day and night forever and ever.
11And I saw a great white throne and Him who was sitting on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.
12And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before the throne, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged from what was written in the books, according to their works.
13And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and She’ol gave up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.
14And Death and She’ol were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death.#See Rev. 2:11; Rev. 20:6; Rev. 21:8
15And if anyone was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
