Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive
(Mark 16.1-8; Luke 24.1-12; John 20.1-10)
1The Sabbath was over, and it was almost daybreak on Sunday when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2Suddenly a strong earthquake struck, and the Lord's angel came down from heaven. He rolled away the stone and sat on it. 3The angel looked as bright as lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards shook from fear and fell down, as though they were dead.
5The angel said to the women, “Don't be afraid! I know you are looking for Jesus, who was nailed to a cross. 6He isn't here! God has raised him to life, just as Jesus said he would. Come, see the place where his body was lying. 7Now hurry! Tell his disciples that he has been raised to life and is on his way to Galilee. Go there, and you will see him. That is what I came to tell you.”
8The women were frightened and yet very happy, as they hurried from the tomb and ran to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them and greeted them. They went near him, held on to his feet, and worshipped him. 10Then Jesus said, “Don't be afraid! Tell my followers to go to Galilee. They will see me there.”
Report of the guard
11While the women were on their way, some soldiers who had been guarding the tomb went into the city. They told the chief priests everything that had happened. 12So the chief priests met with the leaders and decided to bribe the soldiers with a lot of money. 13They said to the soldiers, “Tell everyone that Jesus' disciples came during the night and stole his body while you were asleep. 14If the governor#28.14 governor: Pontius Pilate. hears about this, we will talk to him. You won't have anything to worry about.” 15The soldiers took the money and did what they were told. Some of the Jewish people still tell each other this story.
What Jesus' followers must do
(Mark 16.14-18; Luke 24.36-49; John 20.19-23; Acts 1.6-8)
16Jesus' eleven disciples went to a mountain in Galilee, where Jesus had told them to meet him.#Mt 26.32; Mk 14.28. 17They saw him and worshipped him, but some of them doubted.
18Jesus came to them and said:
I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! 19Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,#Ac 1.8. 20and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.

Mk 16.1-8; Lk 24.1-9; Jn 20.1-2. #Lk 8.2; Mt 27.56. Now after the sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulchre. 2#Mt 27.51,60. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. 4#Mt 27.62-66. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. 5But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6He is not here; for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he#28.6 Other ancient authorities read the Lord lay. 7#Mt 26.32; 28.16; Jn 21.1-23. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. Lo, I have told you.” 8So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9#Jn 20.14-18. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Hail!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

Mt 27.62-66. While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sum of money to the soldiers 13and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14And if this comes to the governor's ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15So they took the money and did as they were directed; and this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.
