Colossians 3
3
1You have been raised to life with Christ. Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God's right side.#3.1 right side: The place of power and honour.#Ps 110.1. 2Think about what is up there, not about what is here on earth. 3You died, which means that your life is hidden with Christ, who sits beside God. 4Christ gives meaning to your#3.4 your: Some manuscripts have “our”. life, and when he appears, you will also appear with him in glory.
5Don't be controlled by your body. Kill every desire for the wrong kind of sex. Don't be immoral or indecent or have evil thoughts. Don't be greedy, which is the same as worshipping idols. 6God is angry with people who disobey him by doing#3.6 people who disobey him by doing: Some manuscripts do not have these words. these things. 7And that is exactly what you did, when you lived among people who behaved in this way. 8But now you must stop doing such things. You must stop being angry, hateful, and evil. You must no longer say insulting or cruel things about others. 9And stop lying to each other. You have given up your old way of life with its habits.#Eph 4.22.
10Each of you is now a new person. You are becoming more and more like your Creator, and you will understand him better.#Eph 4.24; Gn 1.26. 11It doesn't matter if you are a Greek or a Jew, or if you are circumcised or not. You may even be a barbarian or a Scythian,#3.11 a barbarian or a Scythian: Barbarians were people who could not speak Greek and would be in the lower class of society. Scythians were people who were known for their cruelty. and you may be a slave or a free person. Yet Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
12God loves you and has chosen you as his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient.#Eph 4.2. 13Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ has forgiven you.#Eph 4.32. 14Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together.
15Each one of you is part of the body of Christ, and you were chosen to live together in peace. So let the peace that comes from Christ control your thoughts. And be grateful. 16Let the message about Christ completely fill your lives, while you use all your wisdom to teach and instruct each other. With thankful hearts, sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.#Eph 5.19,20. 17Whatever you say or do should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks to God the Father because of him.
Some rules for Christian living
18A wife must put her husband first. This is her duty as a follower of the Lord.#Eph 5.22; 1 P 3.1.
19A husband must love his wife and not abuse her.#Eph 5.25; 1 P 3.7.
20Children must always obey their parents. This pleases the Lord.#Eph 6.1.
21Parents, don't be hard on your children. If you are, they might give up.#Eph 6.4.
22Slaves, you must always obey your earthly masters. Try to please them at all times, and not just when you think they are watching. Honour the Lord and serve your masters with your whole heart.#Eph 6.5-8. 23Do your work willingly, as though you were serving the Lord himself, and not just your earthly master. 24In fact, the Lord Christ is the one you are really serving, and you know that he will reward you. 25But Christ has no favourites! He will punish evil people, just as they deserve.#Dt 10.17; Eph 6.9.

Not Carnality but Christ
1If then you were #Rom. 6:5; Eph. 2:6; Col. 2:12raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, #Ps. 68:18; 110:1; (Rom. 8:34); Eph. 1:20where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2Set your mind on things above, not on things on the #(Matt. 6:19–21)earth. 3#(Rom. 6:2; 2 Cor. 5:14; Gal. 2:20); Col. 2:20For you died, #(2 Cor. 5:7)and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4#(1 John 3:2)When Christ who is #John 14:6our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in #1 Cor. 15:43glory.
5#(Rom. 8:13)Therefore put to death #(Rom. 6:13)your members which are on the earth: #Eph. 5:3fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, #Mark 7:21; 1 Cor. 6:9, 18; 2 Cor. 12:21; Gal. 5:19; Eph. 4:19; 5:3, 5which is idolatry. 6#Rom. 1:18; Eph. 5:6; Rev. 22:15Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon #(Eph. 2:2)the sons of disobedience, 7#1 Cor. 6:11; (Eph. 2:2); Titus 3:3in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.
8#Eph. 4:22; 1 Pet. 2:1But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10and have put on the new man who #Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 4:16is renewed in knowledge #(Rom. 8:29)according to the image of Him who #(Eph. 2:10)created him, 11where there is neither #Rom. 10:12; (1 Cor. 12:13); Gal. 3:27, 28Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, #Eph. 1:23but Christ is all and in all.
Character of the New Man
12Therefore, #(1 Pet. 1:2)as the elect of God, holy and beloved, #Luke 1:78; Phil. 2:1; 1 John 3:17put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13#(Mark 11:25)bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14#1 Pet. 4:8But above all these things #(1 Cor. 13)put on love, which is the #Eph. 4:3bond of perfection. 15And let #(John 14:27; Phil. 4:7)the peace of God rule in your hearts, #1 Cor. 7:15to which also you were called #Eph. 4:4in one body; and #(1 Thess. 5:18)be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another #Eph. 5:19in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17And #1 Cor. 10:31whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

20#Eph. 6:1Children, obey your parents #Eph. 5:24in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
21#Eph. 6:4Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
22#Eph. 6:5; (1 Tim. 6:1); Titus 2:9; 1 Pet. 2:18Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. 23#(Eccl. 9:10)And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24#Eph. 6:8knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; #1 Cor. 7:22for you serve the Lord Christ. 25But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and #Rom. 2:11there is no partiality.
