1Then the Lord said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this generation. 2You shall take #7:2 Lit towith you #7:2 Lit seven sevenseven pairs of every clean animal, a male and his female; and two of the animals that are not clean, a male and his female; 3also of the birds of the sky, #7:3 Lit seven sevenseven pairs, male and female, to keep their #7:3 Lit seedoffspring alive on the face of all the earth. 4For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights; and I will wipe out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made.” 5So Noah acted in accordance with everything that the Lord had commanded him.
6Now Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of water #7:6 Lit wascame upon the earth. 7Then Noah and his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the waters of the flood. 8Of clean animals and animals that are not clean and birds and everything that crawls on the ground, 9they all went into the ark to Noah #7:9 Lit two twoby twos, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10Now it came about after the seven days, that the waters of the flood #7:10 Lit werecame upon the earth. 11In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the #7:11 Or windows of the heavensfloodgates of the sky were opened. 12The rain #7:12 Lit wasfell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.
13On this very same day Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark, 14they and every animal according to its kind, and all the livestock according to #7:14 Lit itstheir kind, and every crawling thing that crawls on the earth according to its kind, and every bird according to its kind, #7:14 Lit every bird, every wingall sorts of birds. 15So they went into the ark to Noah, by twos of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. 16Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and the Lord closed the door behind him.
17Then the flood #7:17 Lit wascame upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark #7:18 Lit wentfloated on the #7:18 Lit facesurface of the water. 19And the water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains #7:19 Lit which were under all the heavenseverywhere under the heavens were covered. 20The water prevailed #7:20 About 23 ft. or 6.7 mfifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. 21So all #7:21 Lit fleshcreatures that moved on the earth perished: birds, livestock, animals, and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23So He wiped out #7:23 Lit all existenceevery living thing that was upon the face of the land, from mankind to animals, to crawling things, and the birds of the sky, and they were wiped out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. 24The water prevailed upon the earth for 150 days.

The flood
1The LORD told Noah:
Take your whole family with you into the boat, because you are the only one on this earth who pleases me. 2Take seven pairs of every kind of animal that can be used for sacrifice#7.2 animal…for sacrifice: Hebrew “clean animals”. Animals that could be used for sacrifice were called “clean”, and animals that could not be used were called “unclean”. and one pair of all others. 3Also take seven pairs of every kind of bird with you. Do this so there will always be animals and birds on the earth. 4Seven days from now I will send rain that will last for forty days and nights, and I will destroy all other living creatures I have made.
5-7Noah was six hundred years old when he went into the boat to escape the flood, and he did everything the LORD had told him to do. His wife, his sons, and his daughters-in-law all went inside with him.#Mt 24.38,39; Lk 17.27. 8-9He obeyed God and took a male and a female of each kind of animal and bird into the boat with him. 10Seven days later a flood began to cover the earth.
11-12Noah was six hundred years old when the water under the earth started gushing out everywhere. The sky opened like windows, and rain poured down for forty days and nights. All this began on the seventeenth day of the second month of the year.#2 P 3.6. 13On that day Noah and his wife went into the boat with their three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives. 14They took along every kind of animal, tame and wild, including the birds. 15Noah took a male and a female of every living creature with him, 16just as God had told him to do. And when they were all in the boat, God closed the door.
17-18For forty days the rain poured down without stopping. And the water became deeper and deeper, until the boat started floating high above the ground. 19-20Finally, the mighty flood was so deep that even the highest mountain peaks were about seven metres below the surface of the water. 21Not a bird, animal, reptile, or human was left alive anywhere on earth. 22-23The LORD destroyed everything that breathed. Nothing was left alive except Noah and the others in the boat. 24A hundred and fifty days later, the water started going down.
