Psalms 30

Thanksgiving for Recovery from Grave Illness
A Psalm. A Song at the dedication of the temple. Of David.
1I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up,
and did not let my foes rejoice over me.
2O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.
3O Lord, you brought up my soul from Sheol,
restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit.#30.3 Or that I should not go down to the Pit
4Sing praises to the Lord, O you his faithful ones,
and give thanks to his holy name.
5For his anger is but for a moment;
his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may linger for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
6As for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I shall never be moved.”
7By your favor, O Lord,
you had established me as a strong mountain;
you hid your face;
I was dismayed.
8To you, O Lord, I cried,
and to the Lord I made supplication:
9“What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the Pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
10Hear, O Lord, and be gracious to me!
O Lord, be my helper!”
11You have turned my mourning into dancing;
you have taken off my sackcloth
and clothed me with joy,
12so that my soul#30.12 Heb that glory may praise you and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

Psalm 30
A psalm by David sung at the dedication of the temple.
1I will honor you highly, O Lord,
because you have pulled me out ⌞of the pit⌟
and have not let my enemies rejoice over me.
2O Lord my God,
I cried out to you for help,
and you healed me.
3O Lord, you brought me up from the grave.
You called me back to life
from among those who had gone into the pit.
4Make music to praise the Lord, you faithful people who belong to him.
Remember his holiness by giving thanks.
5His anger lasts only a moment.
His favor lasts a lifetime.
Weeping may last for the night,
but there is a song of joy in the morning.
6When all was well with me, I said,
“I will never be shaken.”
7O Lord, by your favor you have made my mountain stand firm.
When you hid your face, I was terrified.
8I will cry out to you, O Lord.
I will plead to the Lord for mercy:
9“How will you profit if my blood is shed,
if I go into the pit?
Will the dust ⌞of my body⌟ give thanks to you?
Will it tell about your truth?”
10Hear, O Lord, and have pity on me!
O Lord, be my helper!
11You have changed my sobbing into dancing.
You have removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy
12so that my soul #30:12 Or “glory.” may praise you with music and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever.
