Genesis 5

1This is the record of Adam's descendants. When God created human beings, he made them to be like him. 2He created them male and female, and blessed them. On the day he created them he called them “human.”#5:2. “Human”: literally, “Adam,” or “man.”
3When Adam was 130, he had a son who was like him, made in his image; and he named him Seth. 4Adam lived another 800 years after Seth was born, and had other sons and daughters. 5Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.
6When Seth was 105, he had Enosh. 7Seth lived another 807 years after Enosh was born, and had other sons and daughters. 8Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died.
9When Enosh was 90, he had Kenan. 10Enosh lived another 815 years after Kenan was born, and had other sons and daughters. 11Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died.
12When Kenan was 70, he had Mehalalel. 13Kenan lived another 840 years after Mehalalel was born, and had other sons and daughters. 14Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died. 15When Mahalalel was 65, he had Jared. 16After Jared was born, Mahalalel lived another 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died.
18When Jared was 162, he had Enoch. 19After Enoch was born, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died.
21When Enoch was 65, he had Methuselah. 22He had a close relationship with God. After Methuselah was born, Enoch lived another 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24Enoch had such a close relationship with God that he didn't die,#5:24. “He didn't die”: supplied for clarity. See Hebrews 11:5. he just wasn't there anymore, because God took him.
25When Methuselah was 187, he had Lamech. 26After Lamech was born, Methuselah lived another 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.
28When Lamech was 182, he had a son. 29He named him Noah,#5:29. “Noah”: associated in meaning with “relief,” “rest,” and “comfort.” with the explanation, “He will provide relief for us from all the hard manual labor we need to do in cultivating the ground the Lord has cursed.” 30After Noah was born, Lamech lived another 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.
32Noah was 500 before he had Shem, Ham, and Japheth.#5:32. From the internal evidence in Genesis it appears Japheth was the oldest and Ham the youngest. Usually siblings are listed in birth order in the Old Testament, though for example Moses, despite being younger than Aaron, is listed first. Here it appears that Shem is considered to be more important, and so is listed first.

Gen 1.27. This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created. 3When Adam had lived a hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. 4The days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years; and he had other sons and daughters. 5Thus all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died.
6When Seth had lived a hundred and five years, he became the father of Enosh. 7Seth lived after the birth of Enosh eight hundred and seven years, and had other sons and daughters. 8Thus all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years; and he died.
9When Enosh had lived ninety years, he became the father of Kenan. 10Enosh lived after the birth of Kenan eight hundred and fifteen years, and had other sons and daughters. 11Thus all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years; and he died.
12When Kenan had lived seventy years, he became the father of Ma-halalel. 13Kenan lived after the birth of Ma-halalel eight hundred and forty years, and had other sons and daughters. 14Thus all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years; and he died.
15When Ma-halalel had lived sixty-five years, he became the father of Jared. 16Ma-halalel lived after the birth of Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and had other sons and daughters. 17Thus all the days of Ma-halalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years; and he died.
18When Jared had lived a hundred and sixty-two years he became the father of Enoch. 19Jared lived after the birth of Enoch eight hundred years, and had other sons and daughters. 20Thus all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years; and he died.
21When Enoch had lived sixty-five years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22Enoch walked with God after the birth of Methuselah three hundred years, and had other sons and daughters. 23Thus all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24#Heb 11.5. Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
25When Methuselah had lived a hundred and eighty-seven years, he became the father of Lamech. 26Methuselah lived after the birth of Lamech seven hundred and eighty-two years, and had other sons and daughters. 27Thus all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years; and he died.
28When Lamech had lived a hundred and eighty-two years, he became the father of a son, 29and called his name Noah, saying, “Out of the ground which the Lord has cursed this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the toil of our hands.” 30Lamech lived after the birth of Noah five hundred and ninety-five years, and had other sons and daughters. 31Thus all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years; and he died.
32After Noah was five hundred years old, Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
