Psalms 124

Psalm 124
Praise for Rescue from Enemies.
A Song of #124:0 See Psalm 120 title note.Ascents. Of David.
1“If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,”
Let Israel now say,
2“If it had not been the Lord who was on our side
When men rose up against us,
3Then they would have [quickly] swallowed us alive,
When their wrath was kindled against us;
4Then the waters would have engulfed us,
The torrent would have swept over our soul;
5Then the #124:5 I.e. arrogant enemies.raging waters would have swept over our soul.”
6¶Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us as prey to be torn by their teeth.
7We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers;
The trap is broken and we have escaped.
8Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.

Psalms 124

Psalm 124
A song by David for going up to worship.
1“If the Lord had not been on our side …”
(Israel should repeat this.)
2“If the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us,
3then they would have swallowed us alive
when their anger exploded against us.
4Then the floodwaters would have swept us away.
An ⌞overflowing⌟ stream would have washed us away.
5Then raging water would have washed us away.”
6Thank the Lord, who did not let them sink their teeth into us.
7We escaped like a bird caught in a hunter’s trap.
The trap was broken, and we escaped.
8Our help is in the name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
