Leviticus 22

Various Rules for Priests
1Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Tell Aaron and his sons to be careful with the holy things (offerings, gifts) which the children of Israel dedicate to Me, so that they do not profane My holy name; I am the Lord. 3Say to them, ‘Any one of your descendants throughout your generations who approaches the holy things which the Israelites dedicate to the Lord, while he is [ceremonially] unclean, that person shall be cut off from My presence and excluded from the sanctuary; I am the Lord. 4No man of the descendants of Aaron who is a leper or has a discharge may eat the holy things [the offerings and the showbread] until he is clean. And whoever touches any person or thing made unclean by contact with a corpse or a man who has had a seminal emission, 5or whoever touches any crawling thing by which he is made unclean, or any person by whom he is made unclean, whatever it may be, 6the person who touches any such thing shall be unclean until evening and shall not eat the holy things unless he has bathed his body in water. 7When the sun sets, he will be clean, and afterward he may eat the holy things, for it is his food. 8He shall not eat that which dies [of natural causes] or is torn by a predator, becoming unclean by it; I am the Lord. 9Therefore the priests shall observe My ordinance, so that they will not bear sin because of it and die if they profane it; I am the Lord who sanctifies them.
10‘No layman [that is, someone outside of Aaron’s family] is to eat the holy gift [which has been offered to God]; a foreigner residing with the priest or a hired man shall not eat the holy thing. 11But if a priest buys a slave as his property with his money, the slave may eat the holy thing, and those who are born in the priest’s house; they may eat his food. 12If a priest’s daughter is married to a layman [one not part of the priestly tribe], she shall not eat the offering of the holy things. 13But if a priest’s daughter is a widow or divorced, and has no child, and returns to her father’s house as in her youth, she shall eat her father’s food; but no layman shall eat it. 14But if a person unknowingly eats a holy gift [which has been offered to God], then he shall add one-fifth of its value to it and give the holy gift to the priest. 15The priests shall not profane the holy things the Israelites offer to the Lord, 16and so cause them [by neglect of any essential observance] to bear the #Lit iniquity.punishment of guilt when they eat their holy things; for I am the Lord who sanctifies them.’ ”
Flawless Animals for Sacrifice
17Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 18“Speak to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites and say to them, ‘Any man of the house of Israel or any stranger in Israel who presents his offering, whether to fulfill any of their vows or as any of their freewill (voluntary) offerings which they presented to the Lord as a burnt offering— 19so that you may be accepted—it must be a male without blemish from the cattle, the sheep, or the goats. 20You shall not offer anything which has a blemish, because it will not be accepted for you. 21Whoever offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord to fulfill a special vow to the Lord or as a freewill offering from the herd or from the flock, it must be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish in it. 22Animals that are blind or fractured or mutilated, or have a sore or a running wound or an itch or scabs, you shall not offer to the Lord nor make an offering of them by fire on the altar to the Lord. 23For a freewill offering you may offer either a bull or a lamb which has an overgrown or stunted member (deformity), but for [the payment of] a vow it will not be accepted. 24You shall not offer to the Lord any animal which has its testicles bruised or crushed or torn or cut off, or sacrifice it in your land. 25Nor shall you offer as the food of your God any such [animals obtained] from a foreigner, because their corruption and blemish makes them unfit; there is a defect in them, they shall not be accepted for you.’ ”
26Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 27“When a bull or a sheep or a goat is born, it shall remain for seven days with its mother; and after the eighth day it shall be accepted as an offering by fire to the Lord. 28And whether [the mother] is a cow or a sheep, you shall not kill both it and its young in one day. 29When you sacrifice an offering of thanksgiving to the Lord, you shall sacrifice it so that you may be accepted. 30It shall be eaten on the same day; you shall leave none of it until the next morning; I am the Lord. 31So you shall keep My commandments and do them; I am the Lord.
32“You shall not profane My holy name [using it to honor an idol, or treating it with irreverence or contempt or as a byword]; but I will be sanctified (set apart as holy) among the Israelites. I am the Lord, who sanctifies and declares you holy, 33who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God; I am the Lord.”

Leviticus 22
22
1Adonai spoke to Moses, saying:
2“Tell Aaron and his sons to separate themselves from the holy things of Bnei-Yisrael, which they consecrate to Me, so that they would not profane My holy Name. I am Adonai.
3Tell them, if anyone of all your offspring throughout your generations approaches the holy things, which Bnei-Yisrael consecrate to Adonai, while in a state of uncleanness, that soul will be cut off from before Me. I am Adonai.
4“None of the offspring of Aaron who has tza'arat or has a discharge shall eat of the holy things until he is clean. Whoever touches anything that is unclean by the dead or a man whose seed discharges from him
5or who touches any creeping thing that may make him unclean or a person who is unclean—whatever his uncleanness—
6the person who touches any such thing will be unclean until the evening, and is not to eat of the holy things, unless he has bathed his body in water.
7When the sun sets, he will become clean, and afterward he may eat of the holy things, because it is his food.
8A carcass or what is torn by beasts he is not to eat, becoming unclean by it. I am Adonai.
9“Therefore kohanim should keep My charge, so that they do not become guilty of sin and die should they profane it. I am Adonai who sanctifies them.
10“No layman is to eat from the holy offering. A foreigner living with the kohanim or a hired servant is not to eat from the holy offering.
11But if a kohen buys a slave purchased by his money, that one may eat from it. Also those born in his house may eat his food.
12If a kohen’s daughter is married to a layman, she is not to eat from the gifts of the holy offerings.
13But if a kohen’s daughter is a widow or divorced, and has no child and has returned to her father’s house as in her youth, she may eat from her father’s food. But no layman may eat any of it.
14“If anyone eats something holy unwittingly, then he is to add a fifth to it and give the holy offering to the kohen.
15They are not to profane the holy offerings of Bnei-Yisrael, which they lift up to Adonai,
16so causing them to bear the iniquity that brings guilt when they eat the holy offerings. For I am Adonai who sanctifies them.”
17Adonai spoke to Moses saying:
18“Speak to Aaron and to his sons, and to all Bnei-Yisrael, and say to them: Whoever is from the house of Israel, or one of the outsiders in Israel who brings his offering, whether it be any of their vows or any of their freewill offerings that they present to Adonai for a burnt offering—
19for you to be accepted—you are to offer a male without blemish, from the bulls, the sheep or the goats.
20But whatever has a blemish you are not to present, for it will not be acceptable on your behalf.
21Whoever brings a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to Adonai to fulfill a vow or for a freewill offering, either from the herd or the flock, it must be unblemished to be accepted—there must be no defect on it.
22The blind, injured, maimed, having an abnormal growth or festering or a running sore are not to be offered to Adonai, or given as an offering by fire on the altar to Adonai.
23For a freewill offering you may present a bull or a lamb that has any deformity or lacking in its parts, but for a vow it will not be accepted.
24Whatever has its testicles bruised, crushed, broken or cut, you are not to offer to Adonai, nor are you to do so in your own land.
25Moreover, you are not to offer the food of your God from the hand of an outsider from any of these animals. For their corruption is within them—they have a defect. They will not be accepted on your behalf.”
26Adonai spoke to Moses saying:
27“When a bull, a sheep or a goat is born, then it is to remain seven days with its mother, and from the eighth day onward it will be accepted as the gift of an offering made by fire to Adonai.
28If it is a cow or ewe, you are not to slaughter it along with its young, both in one day.
29When you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Adonai, you are to present it so that you may be accepted.
30It is to be eaten on the same day. You are to leave none of it until the morning. I am Adonai.
31“So you are to keep My mitzvot and do them. I am Adonai.
32You must not profane My holy Name, for I will be made holy among Bnei-Yisrael. I am Adonai who makes you holy,
33who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. I am Adonai.”
