1 Corinthians 16

Instructions and Greetings
1Now concerning the money collected for [the relief of] the saints [in Jerusalem], you are to do the same as I directed the churches of Galatia to do. 2On the first day of every week each one of you is to put something aside, in proportion to his prosperity, and save it so that no collections [will need to] be made when I come. 3When I arrive, I will send whomever you approve with letters [of authorization] to take your gift [of charity and love] to Jerusalem; 4and if it is fitting for me to go too, they will accompany me.
5I will visit you after I go through Macedonia, for I am only passing through Macedonia; 6but it may be that I will stay with you [for a while], or even spend the winter, so that you may send me on my way to wherever I may go afterward. 7For I do not wish to see you right now just in passing, but I hope to remain with you for some time [later on], if the Lord permits. 8But I will stay in Ephesus until #16:8 Feast of the Harvest, also called Feast of Weeks.Pentecost, 9because a wide door for effective service has opened to me [in Ephesus, a very promising opportunity], and there are many adversaries. [Acts 19:23-41]
10If Timothy comes, see to it that [you put him at ease, so that] he has nothing to fear in regard to you, for he is [devotedly] doing the Lord’s work, just as I am. 11So allow no one to treat him with disdain [as if he were inconsequential]. But send him off [cordially, and speed him on his way] in peace, so that he may come to me, for I am expecting him [to come along] with the other brothers.
12As for our brother Apollos, I have strongly encouraged him to visit you with the other brothers. It was not at all his desire to come now, but he will come when he has the opportunity.
13Be on guard; stand firm in your faith [in God, respecting His precepts and keeping your doctrine sound]. Act like [mature] men and be courageous; be strong. [Ps 31:24] 14Let everything you do be done in love [motivated and inspired by God’s love for us].
15Brothers and sisters, you know that those of the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves for ministry to #16:15 Lit the saints.God’s people—now I urge you 16to be subject to such leaders [treating them with courtesy and respect], and to everyone who helps in the work and labors [for the benefit of yourselves and the church]. 17I rejoice because Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus have arrived, for they have made up for your absence. 18They have refreshed my spirit as well as yours. So fully acknowledge such men and deeply appreciate them.
19The churches of Asia send you their greetings. Aquila and Prisca, together with the church [that meets] in their house, send you their warm greetings in the Lord. 20All the believers greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.
21This greeting is in my own hand—Paul. 22If anyone does not love the Lord [does not obey and respect and believe in Jesus Christ and His message], he is to be accursed. Maranatha (O our Lord, come)! 23The grace of our Lord Jesus [His unmerited favor, His spiritual blessing, His profound mercy] be with you. 24My love be with all of you in Christ Jesus. Amen.

1 Corinthians 16

Collection for Jerusalem
1Concerning the collection of money for God’s people: You should do what I have directed the churches in Galatia to do. 2On the first day of the week, each of you should set aside whatever you can afford from what you earn so that the collection won’t be delayed until I come. 3Then when I get there, I’ll send whomever you approve to Jerusalem with letters of recommendation to bring your gift. 4If it seems right for me to go too, they’ll travel with me.
Plans to visit
5I’ll come to you after I go through Macedonia, and because I’m going through Macedonia, 6I may stay with you or even spend the winter there in Corinth so that you can send me on my way to wherever I’m off to next. 7I don’t want to make a quick visit to you, since I hope to spend some time with you if the Lord lets it happen. 8I’ll stay here in Ephesus until the Festival of Pentecost. 9In spite of the fact that there are many opponents, a big and productive opportunity has opened up for my mission here.
10If Timothy comes to you, be sure that he has no reason to be afraid while he’s with you, because he does the work of the Lord just like I do. 11So don’t let anyone disrespect him, but send him on in peace so he can join me. I’m waiting for him along with the brothers and sisters. 12Concerning Apollos our brother: I strongly encouraged him to visit you with the brothers and sisters, but he didn’t want to go now. He’ll come when he has an opportunity.
Final greeting
13Stay awake, stand firm in your faith, be brave, be strong. 14Everything should be done in love.
15Brothers and sisters, I encourage you to do something else. You know that the people in Stephanas’ household were the first crop of the harvest to come from the mission to Achaia. They have dedicated themselves to the service of God’s people. 16So accept the authority of people like them and of anyone who cooperates and works hard. 17I’m so happy that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus have arrived; they’ve made up for my missing you. 18Indeed they’ve provided my spirit and yours with a much-needed rest. Therefore, give them proper recognition.
19The churches in the province of Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca greet you warmly in the Lord, together with the church that meets in their house. 20All the brothers and sisters greet you. You in turn should greet each other with a holy kiss. 21Here is my greeting in my own handwriting—Paul.
22A curse on anyone who doesn’t love the Lord. Come, Lord! 23The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. 24My love is with all of you in Christ Jesus.
