Psalms 1—41
PSALM 1
Common Meter: 8,6,8,6
1That man hath perfect blessedness,
who walketh not astray
In counsel of ungodly men,
nor stands in sinners' way,
Nor sitteth in the scorner's chair:
2But placeth his delight
Upon God's law, and meditates
on his law day and night.
3He shall be like a tree that grows
near planted by a river,
Which in his season yields his fruit,
and his leaf fadeth never:
And all he doth shall prosper well
4The wicked are not so;
But like they are unto the chaff,
which wind drives to and fro.
5In judgment therefore shall not stand
such as ungodly are;
Nor in th' assembly of the just
shall wicked men appear.
6For why? the way of godly men
unto the Lord is known:
Whereas the way of wicked men
shall quite be overthrown.

BOOK 1
Psalm 1
The Righteous and the Wicked Contrasted.
1Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the #1:1 Or waypath of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2But his delight is in the Law of the Lord,
And on His Law he meditates day and night.
3He will be like a tree planted by #1:3 Or canalsstreams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its #1:3 Or foliageleaf does not wither;
And #1:3 Or all that he does prospersin whatever he does, he prospers.
4¶The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind blows away.
5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6For the Lord #1:6 Or approves; or has regard toknows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.
