Hagai (Hag) 2

1On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, this word of Adonai came through Hagai the prophet: 2“Speak now to Z’rubavel the son of Sh’alti’el, governor of Y’hudah, and to Y’hoshua the son of Y’hotzadak, the cohen hagadol, and to the rest of the people; say this to them: 3‘“Who among you is left that saw this house in its former glory? And how does it look to you now? It seems like nothing to you, doesn’t it? 4Nevertheless, Z’rubavel, take courage now,” says Adonai; “and take courage, Y’hoshua the son of Y’hotzadak, the cohen hagadol; and take courage, all you people of the land,” says Adonai; “and get to work! For I am with you,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot. 5“This is in keeping with the word that I promised in a covenant with you when you came out of Egypt, and my Spirit remains with you, so don’t be afraid!” 6For this is what Adonai-Tzva’ot says: “It won’t be long before one more time I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land; 7and I will shake all the nations, so that the treasures of all the nations will flow in; and I will fill this house with glory,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot. 8“The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot. 9“The glory of this new house will surpass that of the old,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot, “and in this place I will grant shalom,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot.’”

10On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month in the second year of Daryavesh, this word of Adonai came through Hagai the prophet: 11“Here is what Adonai-Tzva’ot says: ‘Ask the cohanim what the Torah says about this: 12if someone carries meat that has been set aside as holy in a fold of his cloak; and then he lets his cloak touch bread, stew, wine, olive oil or any other food; does that food become holy too?’” The cohanim answered, “No.” 13Then Hagai asked, “If someone who is unclean from having had contact with a corpse touches any of these [food items], will they become unclean?” The cohanim answered, “They become unclean.” 14Hagai then said, “‘That is the condition of this people, that is the condition of this nation before me,’ says Adonai, ‘and that is the condition of everything their hands produce; so that anything they offer there is unclean. 15Now, please, from this day on, keep this in mind: before you began laying stones on each other to rebuild the temple of Adonai, 16throughout that whole time, when someone approached a twenty-measure pile [of grain], he found only ten; and when he came to the winepress to draw out fifty measures, there were only twenty. 17I struck you with blasting winds, mildew and hail on everything your hands produced; but you still wouldn’t return to me,’ says Adonai. 18‘So please keep this in mind, from this day on, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day the foundation of Adonai’s temple was laid, consider this: 19there’s no longer any seed in the barn, is there? and the vine, fig tree, pomegranate tree and olive tree have produced nothing yet, right? However, from this day on, I will bless you.’”

20The word of Adonai came a second time to Hagai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, as follows: 21“Tell Z’rubavel, governor of Y’hudah, ‘I will shake the heavens and the earth, 22I will overturn the thrones of kingdoms, I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations, and I will overturn the chariots and the people riding in them; the horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother. 23When that day comes,’ says Adonai-Tzva’ot, ‘I will take you, Z’rubavel, my servant, the son of Sh’alti’el,’ says Adonai, ‘and wear you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,’ says Adonai-Tzva’ot.”

새 성전이 더 화려할 것을 약속함

1그 해 7월 21일에 여호와께서 예언자 학개에게 다시 말씀하셨다.

2“너는 스알디엘의 아들인 유다 총독 스룹바벨과 여호사닥의 아들인 대제사장 여호수아와 남은 백성에게 내가 이렇게 말한다고 일러 주어라.

3‘너희 가운데 이전의 성전이 얼마나 화려했는지 기억할 수 있는 자가 있느냐? 지금 이 성전은 너희에게 어떻게 보이느냐? 이것은 너희에게 보잘것없어 보이지 않느냐?

4그러나 용기를 가져라. 스룹바벨과 여호수아와 이 땅 모든 백성아, 힘을 내어 일하라. 내가 너희와 함께한다. 이것은 전능한 나 여호와의 말이다.

5너희가 이집트에서 나올 때에 내가 항상 너희와 함께하겠다고 약속한 대로 내가 지금도 너희와 함께한다. 그러므로 너희는 두려워하지 말아라.

6“ ‘조금 후에 내가 한 번 더 하늘과 땅과 바다와 육지를 진동시키고

7모든 나라를 뒤흔들어 놓겠다. 온 세상의 보물이 이리로 굴러들어올 것이며 내가 이 성전을 영광으로 충만하게 할 것이다.

8은도 내 것이요 금도 내 것이다.

9새 성전이 옛 성전보다 더욱 찬란할 것이다. 그리고 내가 이 곳에 평안을 주겠다. 이것은 전능한 나 여호와의 말이다.’ ”

부정한 백성과 축복을 약속하시는 하나님

10다리우스황제 2년 9월 24일에 여호와께서 예언자 학개에게 말씀하셨다.

11“전능한 나 여호와가 말한다. 너는 율법에 대하여 제사장에게 이렇게 물어 보아라.

12‘사람이 만일 거룩한 제물의 고기를 옷자락에 싸가지고 가다가 그 옷자락이 떡이나 국이나 포도주나 기름이나 다른 음식물에 닿으면 그래도 그것이 거룩하겠습니까?’ ” 그래서 학개가 제사장들에게 묻자 그들은 “아닙니다” 하고 대답하였다.

13그때 학개가 “만일 시체를 만져서 부정하게 된 자가 이 음식물 중 하나를 만지면 그것도 역시 부정하겠습니까?” 하고 다시 묻자 제사장들은 “부정합니다” 하고 대답하였다.

14그러자 학개가 대답하였다. “여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. ‘내 앞에서는 이 백성과 이 나라가 마찬가지이다. 그들이 행하는 일도 부정하고 그들이 드리는 것도 다 부정하다.

15이제 너희는 #2:15 또는 ‘여호와의 전에 돌이 돌 위에 첩놓이지 않았던 때를 추억하라’성전 재건 공사를 시작하기 전에 있었던 일을 잘 생각해 보아라.

16그때 너희는 곡식 20석을 기대하고 갔으나 10석뿐이었으며 포도주 50통을 길으려고 포도즙틀로 갔으나 20통뿐이었다.

17 # 2:17 또는 ‘너희 손으로 지은 모든 일에’ 너희가 기르는 모든 것에 내가 뜨거운 바람과 곰팡이와 우박으로 쳤으나 너희는 나에게 돌아오지 않았다.

18오늘은 9월 24일, 곧 성전 기초 공사를 완성한 날이다. 너희는 오늘 이후의 일을 잘 관찰해 보아라.

19아직도 창고에 남아 있는 씨앗이 있느냐? 지금까지는 포도나무, 무화과나무, 석류나무, 감람나무가 열매를 맺지 못하였으나 오늘부터는 내가 너희에게 복을 내려 주겠다.’ ”

스룹바벨에 대한 여호와의 약속

20그 날 여호와께서 다시 학개에게 말씀하셨다.

21“너는 유다 총독 스룹바벨에게 이렇게 말하라. ‘내가 하늘과 땅을 진동시키며

22여러 나라의 왕위를 뒤엎고 그 권력을 무너뜨리며 전차와 그 전차병을 엎어 버리겠다. 말과 기병들이 서로서로 친 칼날에 쓰러질 것이다.

23전능한 나 여호와가 말한다. 스알디엘의 아들 내 종 스룹바벨아, 그 날에 내가 너를 세워 내 인장 반지처럼 사용하겠다. 이것은 내가 너를 택하였기 때문이다.’ ”
