1 Corinthians (1 Co) 6
6
1How dare one of you with a complaint against another go to court before pagan judges and not before God’s people? 2Don’t you know that God’s people are going to judge the universe? If you are going to judge the universe, are you incompetent to judge these minor matters? 3Don’t you know that we will judge angels, not to mention affairs of everyday life? 4So if you require judgments about matters of everyday life, why do you put them in front of men who have no standing in the Messianic Community? 5I say, shame on you! Can it be that there isn’t one person among you wise enough to be able to settle a dispute between brothers? 6Instead, a brother brings a lawsuit against another brother, and that before unbelievers!
7Actually, if you are bringing lawsuits against each other, it is already a defeat for you. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? 8Instead, you yourselves wrong and cheat; and you do it to your own brothers! 9Don’t you know that unrighteous people will have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don’t delude yourselves — people who engage in sex before marriage, who worship idols, who engage in sex after marriage with someone other than their spouse, who engage in active or passive homosexuality, 10who steal, who are greedy, who get drunk, who assail people with contemptuous language, who rob — none of them will share in the Kingdom of God. 11Some of you used to do these things. But you have cleansed yourselves, you have been set apart for God, you have come to be counted righteous through the power of the Lord Yeshua the Messiah and the Spirit of our God.
12You say, “For me, everything is permitted”? Maybe, but not everything is helpful. “For me, everything is permitted”? Maybe, but as far as I am concerned, I am not going to let anything gain control over me. 13“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”? Maybe, but God will put an end to both of them. Anyhow, the body is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. 14God raised up the Lord, and he will raise us up too by his power.
15Don’t you know that your bodies are parts of the Messiah? So, am I to take parts of the Messiah and make them parts of a prostitute? Heaven forbid! 16Don’t you know that a man who joins himself to a prostitute becomes physically one with her? For the Tanakh says, “The two will become one flesh”; 17but the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit. 18Run from sexual immorality! Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the fornicator sins against his own body. 19Or don’t you know that your body is a temple for the Ruach HaKodesh who lives inside you, whom you received from God? The fact is, you don’t belong to yourselves; 20for you were bought at a price. So use your bodies to glorify God.

Lawsuits among Believers
1If any of you has a dispute against another, how dare you take it to court#Mt 18:15–17 before the unrighteous,#6:1 Unbelievers; v. 6 and not before the saints? 2Or don’t you know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the trivial cases? 3Don’t you know that we will judge angels — how much more matters of this life? 4So if you have such matters, do you appoint as your judges those who have no standing#Lk 18:9 in the church? 5I say this to your shame!#1Co 4:14 Can it be that there is not one wise person among you who is able to arbitrate between fellow believers?#Ac 9:30 6Instead, brother goes to court against brother, and that before unbelievers!#Lk 12:46
7As it is, to have legal disputes against one another is already a defeat for you.#Rm 11:12 Why not rather be wronged?#Rv 2:11 Why not rather be cheated?#Mk 10:19 8Instead, you yourselves do wrong and cheat — and you do this to brothers and sisters! 9Don’t you know that the unrighteous#Lk 16:10 will not inherit God’s kingdom?#Mk 1:15; Ac 20:25 Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters,#Eph 5:5 adulterers,#Lk 18:11 or males who have sex with males,#6:9 Both passive and active participants in homosexual acts#Gn 19:5 10no thieves,#Jn 10:1 greedy#Eph 5:5 people, drunkards, verbally abusive people,#1Co 5:11 or swindlers#Lk 18:11 will inherit God’s kingdom. 11And some of you used to be like this.#Eph 2:2–3; 4:22; 5:8; Ti 3:3 But you were washed, you were sanctified,#Lk 11:2 you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Glorifying God in Body and Spirit
12“Everything is permissible#Jn 18:31 for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered by anything. 13“Food#1Tm 6:8 is for the stomach and the stomach for food,” and God will do away with both of them. However, the body is not for sexual immorality#1Th 4:3 but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14God raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.#Mk 5:30; Lk 1:35; 6:19; Ac 19:11; 2Co 13:4; Rv 11:17 15Don’t you know that your bodies are a part of Christ’s body?#Rm 12:5; 1Co 12:27; Eph 5:30 So should I take a part of Christ’s body and make it part of a prostitute? Absolutely not! 16Don’t you know that anyone joined to a prostitute is one body with her? For Scripture says, The two will become one flesh.#6:16Gn 2:24#Gn 2:24 17But anyone joined#Jn 11:52 to the Lord is one spirit#Ps 51:12 with him.
18Flee#Jms 4:7 sexual immorality! Every other sin#6:18 Lit Every sin a person commits is outside the body, but the person who is sexually immoral#1Co 10:8 sins against his own body. 19Don’t you know that your body is a temple#Lk 1:21 of the Holy Spirit#Rm 8:9,23; 1Co 7:40; 2Co 4:13; Jd 19 who is in you,#Jms 4:5; 1Jn 4:4 whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20for you were bought#2Pt 2:1 at a price. So glorify God with your body.#6:20 Other mss add and in your spirit, which belong to God.
