The Resurrection
Mk 16:1–8; Lk 24:1–12; Jn 20:1–10
1#Mt 27:56; 27:61At the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
2And then there was a great earthquake. For the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it. 3#Mk 9:3; Ac 1:10His countenance was like lightning, and his garments white as snow. 4#Rev 1:17The soldiers shook for fear of him and became like dead men.
5#Heb 1:14The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid. For I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6#Mt 16:21; 27:63He is not here. For He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7#Mt 26:32; 28:10Then go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead, and indeed, He is going before you to Galilee. There you will see Him. Listen, I have told you.”
8#Ps 2:11So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word. 9#Mt 14:33; 28:17As they went to tell His disciples, suddenly Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” They came and took hold of His feet and worshipped Him. 10#Jn 20:17; Ro 8:29Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell My brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
The Report of the Guard
11#Mt 27:65–66While they were going, indeed, some of the soldiers went into the city and described to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12When the chief priests were assembled with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave much money to the soldiers, 13saying, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were sleeping.’ 14#Mt 27:2If this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you secure.” 15#Mt 27:8So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this saying has been commonly reported among the Jews to this day.
The Commissioning of the Disciples
Mk 16:14–18; Lk 24:36–49; Jn 20:19–23; Ac 1:6–8
16#Mt 28:7; 26:32Then the eleven disciples went away to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17#Mt 28:9When they saw Him, they worshipped Him. But some doubted. 18#Mt 11:27; Ro 14:9Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19#Mk 16:15–16; Ac 1:8Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20#Mt 18:20; Ac 2:42teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matthew 28
28
1And on the eve of the sabbaths, at the dawn, toward the first of the sabbaths, came Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre,
2and lo, there came a great earthquake, for a messenger of the Lord, having come down out of heaven, having come, did roll away the stone from the door, and was sitting upon it,
3and his countenance was as lightning, and his clothing white as snow,
4and from the fear of him did the keepers shake, and they became as dead men.
5And the messenger answering said to the women, ‘Fear not ye, for I have known that Jesus, who hath been crucified, ye seek;
6he is not here, for he rose, as he said; come, see the place where the Lord was lying;
7and having gone quickly, say ye to his disciples, that he rose from the dead; and lo, he doth go before you to Galilee, there ye shall see him; lo, I have told you.’
8And having gone forth quickly from the tomb, with fear and great joy, they ran to tell to his disciples;
9and as they were going to tell to his disciples, then lo, Jesus met them, saying, ‘Hail!’ and they having come near, laid hold of his feet, and did bow to him.
10Then saith Jesus to them, ‘Fear ye not, go away, tell to my brethren that they may go away to Galilee, and there they shall see me.’
11And while they are going on, lo, certain of the watch having come to the city, told to the chief priests all the things that happened,
12and having been gathered together with the elders, counsel also having taken, they gave much money to the soldiers,
13saying, ‘Say ye, that his disciples having come by night, stole him — we being asleep;
14and if this be heard by the governor, we will persuade him, and you keep free from anxiety.’
15And they, having received the money, did as they were taught, and this account was spread abroad among Jews till this day.
16And the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mount where Jesus appointed them,
17and having seen him, they bowed to him, but some did waver.
18And having come near, Jesus spake to them, saying, ‘Given to me was all authority in heaven and on earth;
19having gone, then, disciple all the nations, (baptizing them — to the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
20teaching them to observe all, whatever I did command you,) and lo, I am with you all the days — till the full end of the age.’
