Paul and Barnabas in Iconium
1#Ac 18:4; 13:46At Iconium they entered the synagogue of the Jews together and so spoke that a great crowd of both Jews and Greeks believed. 2#Ac 13:50; 13:45But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and embittered their minds against the brothers. 3#Heb 2:4; Ac 20:32So they continued there a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to His gracious word, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 4#Ac 28:24; 14:14But the people of the city were divided. Some sided with the Jews, and others with the apostles. 5#Ac 14:19When an assault was planned by both Gentiles and Jews, with their leaders, to attack them and to stone them, 6#Mt 10:23; 2Ti 3:11they learned of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding region. 7#Ac 14:21And there they preached the gospel.

8#Ac 3:2In Lystra there sat a man, crippled in his feet, who had never walked and was lame from birth. 9#Mt 9:28–29; Ac 3:4He heard Paul speaking, who looked intently at him and perceived that he had faith to be healed 10#Isa 35:6and said with a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he jumped up and walked.
11#Ac 8:10; 28:6When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” 12#Ac 19:35Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes, because he was the main speaker. 13#Da 2:46The priest of Zeus, who was in front of the city, brought bulls and garlands to the gates to offer sacrifices with the crowds.
14#Mt 26:65; Ac 14:4But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out, 15#1Sa 12:21; Jer 14:22“Men, why are you doing this? We also are men, of like nature with you, preaching to you to turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything that is in them, 16#Ac 17:30; Ps 81:12who in times past allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. 17#Dt 11:14; Job 5:10Yet He did not leave Himself without witness, for He did good and gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying our hearts with food and gladness.” 18With these words they scarcely restrained the crowds from sacrificing to them.
19#Ac 13:45; 2Co 11:25Then some Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there and persuaded the crowds. They stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing he was dead. 20#Ac 14:6But as the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and went into the city. The next day he departed with Barnabas for Derbe.

21#Ac 13:51; 14:19When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22#Jn 16:33; 2Ti 3:12strengthening the minds of the disciples and exhorting them to continue in the faith, to go through many afflictions and thus enter the kingdom of God. 23#Titus 1:5; Ac 11:30; 20:32When they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they believed. 24#Ac 13:13–14Then they passed throughout Pisidia and came to Pamphylia, 25and when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia.
26#Ac 15:40; 11:19From there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work which they had completed. 27#Ac 15:12; 1Co 16:9When they arrived and had assembled the church, they reported what God had done through them and how He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. 28#Ac 11:26And there they stayed a long time with the disciples.

1And it came to pass in Ico´ni-um, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. 2But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren. 3Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 4But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. 5And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them, 6they were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lyca-o´nia, and unto the region that lieth round about: 7and there they preached the gospel.

8And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked: 9the same heard Paul speak: who steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, 10said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. 11And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lyca-o´nia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. 12And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercu´ri-us, because he was the chief speaker. 13Then the priest of Jupiter, which was#14.13 which was or whose temple was. before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. 14Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, 15and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: 16who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways. 17Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. 18And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.
19And there came thither certain Jews from An´ti-och and Ico´ni-um, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. 20Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. 21And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Ico´ni-um, and An´ti-och, 22confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. 23And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

24And after they had passed throughout Pisid´i-a, they came to Pamphyl´i-a. 25And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attali´a: 26and thence sailed to An´ti-och, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled. 27And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles. 28And there they abode long time with the disciples.
