Jotham, King of Judah
2Ki 15:33–38
1#1Ch 3:12Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began as king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Jerushah the daughter of Zadok. 2And he did what was correct in the eyes of the Lord just as his father Uzziah had done. However, he did not enter the temple of the Lord. But the people continued acting corruptly. 3#2Ch 33:14; Ne 3:26–27And he built the Upper Gate of the house of the Lord, and he built much on the wall of Ophel. 4And he built cities in the hill country of Judah, and on the wooded heights he built citadels and towers.
5He made war with the king of the Ammonites and prevailed against them. That year the Ammonites gave to him one hundred talents#About 33/4 tons, or 3.4 metric tons. of silver, ten thousand kors#Likely about 1,800 tons, or 1,600 metric tons of wheat. of wheat, and ten thousand kors#Likely about 1,500 tons, or 1,350 metric tons of barley. of barley. The Ammonites paid him the same amount in the second and third years as well.
6#2Ch 26:5So Jotham was strengthened because he established his ways before the Lord his God.
7And the remainder of the acts of Jotham, all his wars and ways, are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. 8He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he was king for sixteen years in Jerusalem. 9And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. And Ahaz his son reigned in his place.
