Judgment Against Immorality
1#Lev 18:8; Dt 22:30It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles, that a man has his father’s wife. 2#1Co 5:13; 2Co 7:7–11But you are arrogant. Instead you should have mourned, so that he who has done this deed might be removed from among you. 3#Col 2:5; 1Th 2:17For indeed, though absent in body but present in spirit, I have already, as if I were present, judged him who has done this deed, 4#Jn 20:23; 2Co 13:3in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. When you are assembled, along with my spirit, in the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5#1Ti 1:20; 1Co 1:8deliver him to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that the spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord Jesus.
6#Gal 5:9; Jas 4:16Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch? 7#Ex 12:15; Mk 14:12Therefore purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new batch, since you are unleavened. For even Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed for us. 8#Ex 12:15; Dt 16:3Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old yeast, nor with the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
9#Eph 5:11; 2Co 6:14I wrote to you in my letter not to keep company with sexually immoral people. 10#1Co 10:27Yet I did not mean the sexually immoral people of this world, or the covetous and extortioners, or the idolaters, since you would then need to go out of the world. 11#2Th 3:6; Mt 18:17; Ro 16:17But I have written to you not to keep company with any man who is called a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner. Do not even eat with such a person.
12#Mk 4:11For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13#Dt 13:5; 17:7But God judges those who are outside. Therefore “put away from among yourselves that wicked person.”#Dt 17:7; 19:19; 21:21; 22:21; 24:7.

Dealing With a Case of Incest
1It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father’s wife. 2And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this? 3For my part, even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgment in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this. 4So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, 5hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh,#5:5 In contexts like this, the Greek word for flesh (sarx) refers to the sinful state of human beings, often presented as a power in opposition to the Spirit.#5:5 Or of his body so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.
6Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? 7Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
9I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister#5:11 The Greek word for brother or sister (adelphos) refers here to a believer, whether man or woman, as part of God’s family; also in 8:11, 13. but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.
12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”#5:13 Deut. 13:5; 17:7; 19:19; 21:21; 22:21,24; 24:7
