Psalms 17

Prayer with Confidence in Final Salvation
A Prayer of David.
1Hear a just cause, O Lord,
Attend to my cry;
Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips.
2Let my vindication come from Your presence;
Let Your eyes look on the things that are upright.
3You have tested my heart;
You have visited me in the night;
#Job 23:10; Ps. 66:10; Zech. 13:9; (1 Pet. 1:7)You have tried me and have found nothing;
I have purposed that my mouth shall not #Ps. 39:1transgress.
4Concerning the works of men,
By the word of Your lips,
I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer.
5#Job 23:11; Ps. 44:18; 119:133Uphold my steps in Your paths,
That my footsteps may not slip.
6#Ps. 86:7; 116:2I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God;
Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech.
7Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand,
O You who save those who trust in You
From those who rise up against them.
8Keep me as the apple of Your eye;
Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,
9From the wicked who oppress me,
From my deadly enemies who surround me.
10They have closed up their #Ezek. 16:49fat hearts;
With their mouths they #(1 Sam. 2:3)speak proudly.
11They have now surrounded us in our steps;
They have set their eyes, crouching down to the earth,
12As a lion is eager to tear his prey,
And like a young lion lurking in secret places.
13Arise, O Lord,
Confront him, cast him down;
Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword,
14With Your hand from men, O Lord,
From men of the world who have their portion in this life,
And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure.
They are satisfied with children,
And leave the rest of their possession for their babes.
15As for me, #(1 John 3:2)I will see Your face in righteousness;
#Ps. 4:6, 7; 16:11I shall be satisfied when I #(Is. 26:19)awake in Your likeness.

Psalm 17
A prayer by David.
1Hear my plea for justice, O Lord.
Pay attention to my cry.
Open your ears to my prayer,
⌞which comes⌟ from lips free from deceit.
2Let the verdict of my innocence come directly from you.
Let your eyes observe what is fair.
3You have probed my heart.
You have confronted me at night.
You have tested me like silver,
but you found nothing wrong.
I have determined that my mouth will not sin.
4I have avoided cruelty because of your word.
In spite of what others have done,
5my steps have remained firmly in your paths.
My feet have not slipped.
6I have called on you because you answer me, O God.
Turn your ear toward me.
Hear what I have to say.
7Reveal your miraculous deeds of mercy,
O Savior of those who find refuge by your side
from those who attack them.
8Guard me as if I were the pupil in your eye.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
9Hide me from wicked people who violently attack me,
from my deadly enemies who surround me.
10They have shut out all feeling.
Their mouths have spoken arrogantly.
11They have tracked me down.
They have surrounded me.
They have focused their attention on throwing me to the ground.
12Each one of them is like a lion eager to tear ⌞its prey⌟ apart
and like a young lion crouching in hiding places.
13Arise, O Lord; confront them!
Bring them to their knees!
With your sword rescue my life from wicked people.
14With your power rescue me from mortals, O Lord,
from mortals who enjoy their inheritance only in this life.
You fill their bellies with your treasure.
Their children are satisfied ⌞with it⌟,
and they leave what remains to their children.
15I will see your face when I am declared innocent.
When I wake up, I will be satisfied ⌞with seeing⌟ you.
