Israel Affirms the Covenant
1Now He said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, #Ex. 6:23; 28:1; Lev. 10:1, 2Nadab and Abihu, #Ex. 1:5; Num. 11:16and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from afar. 2And Moses alone shall come near the Lord, but they shall not come near; nor shall the people go up with him.”
3So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said, #Ex. 19:8; 24:7; Deut. 5:27; (Gal. 3:19)“All the words which the Lord has said we will do.” 4And Moses #Ex. 17:14; 34:27; Deut. 31:9wrote all the words of the Lord. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve #Gen. 28:18pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 5Then he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered #Ex. 18:12; 20:24burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord. 6And Moses #Ex. 29:16, 20; Heb. 9:18took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7Then he #Ex. 24:4; Heb. 9:19took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.” 8And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is #Zech. 9:11; (Matt. 26:28; Mark 14:24; Luke 22:20; 1 Cor. 11:25; Heb. 9:19, 20; 13:20; 1 Pet. 1:2)the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all these words.”
On the Mountain with God
9Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, 10and they #Ex. 24:11; Num. 12:8; Is. 6:5; (John 1:18; 6:46); 1 John 4:12saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of #Ezek. 1:26; Rev. 4:3sapphire stone, and it was like the #Matt. 17:2very heavens in its clarity. 11But on the nobles of the children of Israel He #Ex. 19:21did not lay His hand. So #Gen. 32:30; Judg. 13:22they saw God, and they #1 Cor. 10:18ate and drank.
12Then the Lord said to Moses, #Ex. 24:2, 15“Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you #Ex. 31:18; 32:15; Deut. 5:22tablets of stone, and the law and commandments which I have written, that you may teach them.”
13So Moses arose with #Ex. 32:17his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up to the mountain of God. 14And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Indeed, Aaron and #Ex. 17:10, 12Hur are with you. If any man has a difficulty, let him go to them.” 15Then Moses went up into the mountain, and #Ex. 19:9; Matt. 17:5a cloud covered the mountain.
16Now #Ex. 16:10; 33:18; Num. 14:10the glory of the Lord rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 17The sight of the glory of the Lord was like #Ex. 3:2; Deut. 4:26, 36; 9:3; Heb. 12:18, 29a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel. 18So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mountain. And #Ex. 34:28; Deut. 9:9; 10:10Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Exodus 24
24
1 He said to Moses, “Come up to the LORD, you, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship from a distance. 2Moses alone shall come near to the LORD, but they shall not come near. The people shall not go up with him.”
3 Moses came and told the people all the LORD’s words, and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, “All the words which the LORD has spoken will we do.”
4 Moses wrote all the LORD’s words, then rose up early in the morning and built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel. 5He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to the LORD. 6Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “We will do all that the LORD has said, and be obedient.”
8 Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you concerning all these words.”
9 Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up. 10They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was like a paved work of sapphire#24:10 or, lapis lazuli stone, like the skies for clearness. 11He didn’t lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Israel. They saw God, and ate and drank.
12 The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them.”
13 Moses rose up with Joshua, his servant, and Moses went up onto God’s Mountain. 14He said to the elders, “Wait here for us, until we come again to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever is involved in a dispute can go to them.”
15 Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16The LORD’s glory settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. The seventh day he called to Moses out of the middle of the cloud. 17The appearance of the LORD’s glory was like devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel. 18Moses entered into the middle of the cloud, and went up on the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
