Mark 16

Jesus Has Risen
1When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”
4But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
6“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’ ”
8Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.#16:8 Some manuscripts have the following ending between verses 8 and 9, and one manuscript has it after verse 8 (omitting verses 9-20): Then they quickly reported all these instructions to those around Peter. After this, Jesus himself also sent out through them from east to west the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. Amen.
[The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9–20.]
9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. 11When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.
12 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country. 13These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.
14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

The Resurrection
1 # For ver. 1-8, see Matt. 28:1-8; Luke 24:1-10; John 20:1 # [ch. 1:32] When the Sabbath was past, #ch. 15:40 Mary Magdalene, #ch. 15:40 Mary the mother of James, and #[See ch. 15:40 above] Salome #Luke 23:56; [John 19:39, 40]bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away #ch. 15:46the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” 4And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—#Matt. 27:60it was very large. 5And #[John 20:11, 12] entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, #[ch. 9:3; Dan. 7:9; John 20:12; Acts 1:10] dressed in #Rev. 6:11; 7:9 a white robe, and #ch. 9:15 (Gk.)they were alarmed. 6And he said to them, #[See ver. 5 above]“Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7But go, tell his disciples and Peter that #ch. 14:28he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, #ch. 14:28just as he told you.” 8And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
[Some of the earliest manuscripts do not include 16:9–20.] # 16:9 Some manuscripts end the book with 16:8; others include verses 9–20 immediately after verse 8. At least one manuscript inserts additional material after verse 14; some manuscripts include after verse 8 the following: But they reported briefly to Peter and those with him all that they had been told. And after this, Jesus himself sent out by means of them, from east to west, the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. These manuscripts then continue with verses 9–20
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
9[[Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, #John 20:14; [Matt. 28:9] he appeared first to #Luke 8:2Mary Magdalene, #Luke 8:2from whom he had cast out seven demons. 10#John 20:18; [Matt. 28:10; Luke 24:10] She went and told those who had been with him, #John 16:20 as they #Luke 6:25mourned and wept. 11But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they #Luke 24:11; [ver. 16]would not believe it.
Jesus Appears to Two Disciples
12 #
Luke 24:13-31 After these things #ver. 14; [John 21:1, 14] he appeared in #Luke 9:29 (Gk.)another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. 13#Luke 24:33-35And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.
The Great Commission
14Afterward #[See ver. 12 above] he appeared #Luke 24:36; 1 Cor. 15:5 to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their #[Luke 24:41] unbelief and #See ch. 10:5 hardness of heart, because #ver. 11, 13they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. 15And he said to them, #Matt. 28:19 “Go into all the world and #Col. 1:23; [ch. 13:10; Acts 1:8; Rom. 10:18] proclaim the gospel to #Rom. 8:22the whole creation. 16#[John 3:18] Whoever believes and is #John 3:5 baptized #Acts 16:31; Rom. 10:9; 1 Pet. 3:21 will be saved, but #ver. 11; Luke 24:11, 41; Acts 28:24; 1 Pet. 2:7; [2 Thess. 2:12]whoever #[John 3:18] does not believe will be condemned. 17And #[ch. 11:23] these signs will accompany those who believe: #Acts 5:16; 8:7; 16:18; 19:12; See ch. 9:38 in my name they will cast out demons; #Acts 2:4; 10:46; 19:6; 1 Cor. 12:10, 28, 30; 13:1; 14:2, 4they will speak in new tongues; 18#Luke 10:19; Acts 28:3-5 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; #See ch. 5:23 they will lay their hands #Acts 5:15, 16; 8:7; 9:12, 17; 28:8; James 5:14, 15; [John 14:12]on the sick, and they will recover.”
19So then the Lord Jesus, #Acts 1:3 after he had spoken to them, #Luke 9:51; 24:51; John 6:62; Acts 1:2; 1 Tim. 3:16; [John 20:17; Eph. 4:8-10; Heb. 4:14] was taken up into heaven and #Acts 7:55, 56; Rom. 8:34; Eph. 1:20; Col. 3:1; Heb. 1:3; 8:1; 10:12; 12:2; 1 Pet. 3:22; Rev. 3:21; See Matt. 22:44; Acts 2:33sat down at the right hand of God. 20And they went out and preached everywhere, while #Heb. 2:3, 4; See 1 Cor. 3:9 the Lord worked with them and confirmed #See ch. 4:14 the message #See Acts 5:12by accompanying signs.]]
