Genesis 7

1The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. 2Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, 3and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. 4Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.”

5And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.

6Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth. 7And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. 8Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, 9male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah. 10And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.

11In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.

13On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. 14They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. 15Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. 16The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.

17For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. 20The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.#7:20 That is, about 23 feet or about 6.8 meters#7:20 Or rose more than fifteen cubits, and the mountains were covered 21Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. 22Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. 23Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.

24The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

Berĕshith (Genesis) 7

1And יהוה said to Noaḥ, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation.

2“Of all the clean beasts take with you seven pairs, a male and his female; and of the beasts that are unclean two, a male and his female;

3and of birds of the heavens seven pairs, male and female, to keep offspring alive on the face of all the earth.

4“For after seven more days I am sending rain on the earth, forty days and forty nights, and shall wipe from the face of the earth all that stand that I created.”

5And Noaḥ did according to all that יהוה commanded him.

6Now Noaḥ was six hundred years old when the flood-waters were on the earth.

7And Noaḥ and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives went into the ark because of the waters of the flood.

8Of the clean beasts and of the beasts that are unclean, and of birds, and of all that creep on the earth,

9two by two they went into the ark to Noaḥ, male and female, as Elohim had commanded Noaḥ.

10And it came to be after seven days that the waters of the flood were on the earth.

11In the six hundredth year of Noaḥ’s life, in the second new moon,#Month the seventeenth day of the moon,#Month on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of the heavens were opened.

12And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.

13On that same day Noaḥ and Shĕm and Ḥam and Yapheth, the sons of Noaḥ, and Noaḥ’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, went into the ark,

14they and every life form after its kind, and every beast after its kind, and every creeping creature that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort.

15And they went into the ark to Noaḥ, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life.

16And those going in, male and female of all flesh, went in as Elohim had commanded him, and יהוה shut him in.

17And the flood was on the earth forty days, and the waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth.

18And the waters were mighty and greatly increased on the earth, and the ark moved about on the surface of the waters.

19And the waters were exceedingly mighty on the earth, and all the high mountains under all the heavens were covered.

20The waters became mighty, fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered.

21And all flesh died – the creeping creature on the earth – birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming creature that swarms on the earth, and all mankind.

22All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died.

23So He wiped off all that stand, which were on the face of the ground – both man and beast, creeping creature and bird of the heavens. And they were wiped off from the earth. And only Noaḥ was left, and those with him in the ark.

24And the waters were mighty on the earth, one hundred and fifty days.
