Can Leadership Really Be This Simple?

Have we made leadership too complicated? The discipline of leadership is something to which many aspire to yet most struggle to practice.

We’re reluctant to follow a path to leadership because we’re not sure of the direction it will lead. Instead of being strong and courageous, we become reluctant leaders.

Leadership flows from obedience. Like we see with so many people in Scripture, our loving heavenly Father expands or limits our leadership opportunities to grow us and achieve his purposes.

The Apostle Peter offers this encouragement for reluctant leaders:

“Therefore, your minds must be clear and ready for action. Place your confidence completely in what God’s kindness will bring you when Jesus Christ appears again.” – 1 Peter 1:13 GW

What’s he saying here? Think clearly, be prepared, and have hope.

Think about it another way: Get clarity, have confidence, and be ready to fulfill your calling.

The “new normal” is your opportunity to model clear thinking and courageous action because God wants to show the world the spectacular things he does.

Ask yourself:

How can I inspire hope in the people I work with by reminding them that their work truly matters?

For reflection:

When I hear your voice today, Lord, may my mind be clear, so I am ready to act when you call. I want to be confident in my role as a leader but am not always confident, which makes me reluctant to act. Help me be like your servant Joshua, whom you called to follow your commands and be strong and courageous. Give me faith and confidence in you because I know you do spectacular things. Amen.
